This has been such a comfort to me. While I baked Christmas cookies by myself this year, which my son used to do because he loves to cook, I lit my candle. He was with me. When the lights went out last week and I was by myself in the dark, the first candle I lit was the blue candle. He was with me. When I don't hear from him or he doesn't answer my email because he's too busy and I miss him, I light my candle. I know he's safe. When he told me a few days ago that he might be going to Afghanistan and I wanted to tell him no, I lit the candle. But I took a deep breathe and we discussed it calmly. No easy task for a mom. I'm still waiting to hear from him if he's been chosen for this. I lit my candle but I still cried. Right now I am sharing this with you, a unique group of incredible moms and families who understand the worry, and my blue candle burns beside me. My son is here, in my heart, within the light of this candle. Thank you moms for listening and sharing and caring.

I'd like to make a suggestion to those of you having trouble finding blue candles in your area in the retail stores. ( someone posted that, I think?) I've found a great supply of blue candles in 2nd hand stores, thrift stores, etc. Amazingly, really nice, pillar-type candles and a few tapers. These were all dark, navy blue and were just what I needed over the holidays.
Today, I found sweet little light-blue votives in a baggie for 60 cents!!
I also found a Dark Blue glass votive holder for 59 cents and it was like new.
(I am so delighted when I find these things!)
I am so surprised at how many BLUE candles I find in these stores.
Anyway, if you don't mind shopping in "gently used' stores, its a great resource when the retail stores are out of stock.

I'm in Ypsilanti, MI, and we light our candle every night when we are having dinner together. Katie is at 'A' school in Great Lakes for DC at the present time.

Hel! I am Bobbie from Louisburg, NC. I am continuing to burn my blue candle for my girl Nikki. She is in San Diego now waiting for deployment. I am so scared but she said she will be able to email me. I am so proud of her and God Bless them all. :)

I'm still lighting mine in the kitchen window. My son is in A school, or I should say waiting for his classes to start. Maybe not for another 3 months. I will be looking for another blue one to burn. Got to buy alot when we find them.

Three years ago when our neighbor left for Iraq I started lighting a candle in his honor every night. He returned safely and then did another tour from which he returned safely this summer. I have two beloved cousins there now as well as a good Navy friend who is "boots on the ground". My candle has been lit every night for three years and will continue to be so until every man and woman has returned to their loved ones. I'll change to a blue candle now however.
