You Are Cordially Invited
You and members of your organization are cordially invited to the Medal of Honor Memorial Dedication and Veterans Day Celebration at the University of Washington on November 11, 2009. Our goal is that this will be the largest gathering in Seattle honoring our nation’s veterans. We hope your group will make that a reality by being part of this very special day.
The day’s events begin at 10:00 a.m. with a parade down Memorial Way, one of the university’s main thoroughfares. Immediately following the parade, the university will officially dedicate a new memorial honoring the eight University of Washington alumni who have received the Medal of Honor. The university is proud to have more Medal of Honor recipients than any other public university in the country, with the exception of the service academies.
The Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, has been awarded to 3,467 service members since its inception in 1862. Fewer than 100 are still living.
Various dignitaries, including more than 15 Medal of Honor recipients, will attend the ceremony. Local active-duty, Reserve, ROTC, veterans and other groups will participate in the parade. Following the ceremony, Medal of Honor recipients will be available to talk with guests. Other special events and displays honoring veterans and the Medal of Honor will occur on campus throughout the day.
Included in this email is more information about the celebration. Please feel free to use it on your organization’s Web site or newsletter. Posters are also available.
Parking will be available near the parade site and accommodations will be made for people with limited mobility. Details will be at www.valor.washington.edu.
We hope you will join us for this special celebration. Please feel free to contact Lorraine Ralston at (253) 853.3317 or ldralston1@aol.com if you have any questions or would like someone to talk to your group about the celebration.
Sincerely,
Randy Hodgins
