Navy For Moms

Hello - My son is in training school in Mississippi but when he graduated from boot camp in Great Lakes, IL he went to a nearby mall for Verizon wireless service (cell phone I guess). Anyway, he is suppose to get a military discount each month on his bill but it not getting it. They said he could go into a local Verizon store but there is not one in the city he is in. I was told that they would give him the discount if he would provide his military email address. He said he does not have a military email address only his personal email address. Can anyone help with this? Thank you all.

Hi Wendy,

Oh no - My son is talking about getting an iPhone and that's through AT&T. Please let me know how your battle ents.

Hi Wendy - your sailor might want to contact legal assistence from the Navy. They have that resource everywhere they go and they know exactly what you sailor should do. Mine have found that they know the laws and how to make it happen for them. As a Navy Mom I could not get the results that my sailors could in this arena.

Diana, After my son's graduation we too went to the Verizon store in the local mall. There he purchased a phone and started his own account (the discount would only apply if the account was in his name, not on my account). At that time he showed his military i.d. and the salesman took the info that he needed. Nothing was ever said about an email address. The military discount does not include the phone (because it had a rebate), however, he was told his monthly bills would be discounted 18%. We haven't seen a bill yet because it's only been a couple of weeks. Hope this helps. Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. Watch for the discount. I learned that the military email address is assigned after training school, once they reach their first duty station.

A little of track of the question, but stay away from Helio. They lied to my son about where his phone would work, ripped him off for his deposit, and charged him over $300 for it. I have POA, got the account cancelled, they were supposed to refund the deposit, of course they didn't, and they are just not helpful at all. AND... they will not suspend accounts while deployed. Can you believe that?

Robin, My son initially was with T-Mobile prior to him leaving for bootcamp. His contract would have been up while he was away. After many phone calls to T-Mobile, I decided to go directly to the top of the company. I found the email address of the CEO and shamed him into cancelling the contract. So try going to the top, maybe you will have the same luck.

Debbie, what is the name of that CEO. They have now charged my son 3 times with in the first 3 days of June for over $324 each time and luckily it cleared. He has now had it taken off but it is still the principle of the thing. He had cancelled a number and internet that he didn't ever use and this is apparently what it is about. Yes they will cancel it while on deployment but he is almost at the end of his patience with them. We shall see. Thanks Jeanine

I don't have any answers, but glad you brought this up...my daughter will be hooking up with one of these outfits, and I don't want her to have problems! I'll keep an eye on this thread, if anyone has any inputs as to which company is the best for the military! Thanks for the awesome question!

How funny, when my some went to boot camp he had his phone put on "military suspension" When he tried to reactivate it we found that they had cancelled his contract and wanted him to pay a whole new reactivation fee as a new client. After a great deal of time and work AT&T agreeed to give him a new contract and not charge the fee as it was their mistake. He never has gotten a military discount. It's great how big companies support our brave service personal. I also had to go to the top and threaten to go public.

Well, thanks to having all this info from you guys, my daughter went into TMobile, told them of what she had heard, and used it to get a great deal, the discount and also free texting! They sold her a phone that was over $100, for $50. because they said "They want to support our troops!" So my advise is, tell the sailors to push they way around in there when they are purchasing! Thanks for your help!!!

Cheryl,

I am so glad that in sharing our experiences your daughter was blessed. I hope others will also be in a better position. Businesses in America should come to the aid our brave Navy men and women. May God continue to bless our military and our nation.

Have a great week-end.
