Anyone with a child in the SECF? (Submarine Electronics/ Computers Field)

Just looking for others with sailors in this field. Son is at A school in New London and is scheduled to finish this on June 20th. Would be nice to visit with others with sailors in the same area.

He thinks he will be staying there for the next School, but he isn't sure. Still not gonna be able to come home though.

My son will be leaving for bootcamp soon, and SECF is the only job he was offered when he went to MEPS. He would like to go with the Fire Control Technician. What type of security clearance do they have to have. I've looked and have seen a couple of different things. He's OK, but I freak out thinking about them coming by and talking to me. (I'm always a little uptight.)

I had to laugh when I read this post. A week ago last Friday, I went outside to check on my 2 younger kids (like I do every 5 minutes when they are outside), and they were down the street talking to some very sharp looking man in a very nice suite. I politely asked the kids to come back down the street and this guy followed them. I was beginning to go into panic mode. He asked me if I was April Hankins, and I said yes. Ok, by now I was looking for a place to run...(not really). He whipped out some fancy badge and said I am Mr. whatever with the Federal Invesitgators office in D.C., I am walking around your neighborhood completing a background check on your son. He also went to the local PD to see if he had ever been into trouble with the law, and went and talked to 2 of his employers. He knocked on every door in a 2 block radius to see what our neighbors knew about him. Needless to say we were the talk of the neighborhood and the town for a couple of days. We live in a town with about 20,000 and I am very active in the community and schools, so most people know myself and family. He finished BC in April, so we thought all of his background checks had already been completed. They will show up when you least expect it. They won't want to ask you any questions about your sailor, unless they can't find anybody home, they will ask you when the best time to catch anyone is. That is what he did with me.

Well, he'll be in for a surprise. We've lived in our house 10+ years and we don't know any of our neighbors. There may be one neighbor around that knows his name or that he even exists. Everyone we know is either from church or work. Oh my.

From my understanding, families are not allowed until they are assigned their first duty station, this would be after A school. They earn different phases of liberty and can earn weekdn liberty. They don't have to be back until Sunday sometime, where they can spend time with their families if they live within a certain radius of the base. Our son's background check (through the FBI) until he was already at Groton in BESS classes. He finished ATT Friday and will start the Techno classes on Monday. Then it will be A School

My son is also SECF Sub ET. He is scheduled to graduate Boot Camp on Oct 3. I'm wondering what happens to them after boot camp? Where do they go for school and what can we expect after he graduates. We had the hardest time just getting straight answers from the recruiters on stuff and I'm still unsure of what the final plan was when he left. They didn't tell us that he would be meeting with the MEPS counsler before shipping out again to go over the paperwork and get final signatures and swear in again. We only found this out after the fact at the airport where we met my son to say goodbye. Any help would be appreciated.

I just got back from my sons graduation on 10/10 so I'm a week behind you. He is also headed to Groton and I have no idea what happens next. Have you received any information that you can share with me so I know what to expect next? I'm just kinda waiting around to hear from him and hoping to be able to get him a cell phone soon. Any info you can give me would be great!

They will be able to purchase a cell phone if they don't already have one. right there on base? Can you believe that! I'm waiting on addy as well to send lap top. Details are sketchy.. but arn't they always with Uncle Sam? Aaron said he is enjoying things... Their classes started today for the sub mariners. they won't do their actual Rate schooling until after sub mariners. Is he in groton for the class that started this week today?

Tyler left GL on the 29th of April, his PIR was on the 25th. He went to Groton and went through all the indoc stuff then started BESS (Basic Enlisted Submarine School. After that he was in the ATT classes, then it was Techno He just finished this on the 27th of August. He is now on hold for A School which is still there in Groton that will start on the 22nd of September. He is scheduled to finish A School around the 7th of February. Then he will be assigned a Duty Station. After A School he will get 10 days at home before reporting to wherever he is assigned. He said he will get to come home for a week sometime around Christmas and New Years.
