Anyone with a child in the SECF? (Submarine Electronics/ Computers Field)

Just looking for others with sailors in this field. Son is at A school in New London and is scheduled to finish this on June 20th. Would be nice to visit with others with sailors in the same area.

There are only a certain number that they are offered for their first assignment if I undersood it right. Our son was hoping for there too, but said it wasn't one of the choices when he had to choose 3. He picked CT, Hawaii, and Guam. So we will see if they actually get one that they have chosen.

Aarons 3 choices was Japan, Hawaii or Guam. Didn't want main land good ol' USA. LOL said he joined the navy to see the world and to protect our freedom and wants to do it from afar I guess LOL I don't know if these choices are in his contract, but these were the locations he voiced interest in.

That's the way our son was too. He told his recruiter where he would like to go, but when they get to a certain point once they are at sub school, they get to pick from a list of places they would like to go. I am just ready for him to finish A School so he can come home. Well, Christmas anyway. He was to get to come home this last weekend, but called us on Thursday and said that he couldn't leave because of Hurrican Hanna. They needed every sailor on base in case it was bad. He was gonna be home until the 18th. That's all part of the military, "expect your pans to change at the last minute.: So you are from Woodward? I have been there many times. I lived in OKC for quite some time and traveled through there about aonce a week to go home in Dodge City. I actually ened up staying there one night because of a really bad snow storm on my way back to OKC, it took me 7 1/2 hours to get there from Dodge and I was not about to drive the rest of the way. How long have yo ulived there?

My son did PIR Nov 07, 2008, and will grad BESS Jan 15 2009. Next he says is ATT school (advanced Tech Training), and then maybe regular A school. As soon as he had been in BESS about a week, he was told he could wear civilian clothes when not on duty. He got a new cellphone the first day or so, after he arrived in Groton.

He already knows he will be a sonar guy.
We had our visit from the security guy, and just like Pat's experience, I dont think the security guy will find many people who have known my son in the last five years. His dad and I go to work, go to church, and hang out with our families, and spend time with our younger kids, so any kind of extensive network of people outside this group, just doesnt exist.

Our son has spent his years after high school in some jobs that were boring, and all of the places he worked had a real high turn over rate, including the bosses! Lots of retail mostly. Our one next door neighbor, for whom he would shovel snow from her sidewalk, died (she was in her 90's) , and I dont think anyone else on our street even knows his name.
Perhaps for those who live in cities, this might be fairly common, to not know a lot of people.

Hello again! Is there any way to figure out which class my kid is in? The sub school page says Feb 01 BESS was for classes 08090 and 08100....but that is as far back as it will list the dates and such.

New info! Yay, and only took me two months. Mr Silent Service reports his class in New London is 09090. Now I cancheck on things without bothering him, cause he just is not the chat every day sort of person. :)
