Navy For Moms

My son James is an MA ( Master at Arms). I've seen moms of seabees, nukes and seals.I think it will be interesting to learn about all the jobs in the Navy. With this discussion a mom with Q's about a job or duty can find someone with experience :) Melissa.

My son went in undesignated...not something he would recommend to anyone...and didn't read his contract. Anyway...he's in deck department. He woul like to strike into something w/aviation.

Hello..my son is also in the "undesignated" program...and while he wasn't real enthused at first about it,,..( he didn't get his shot at what he is truly wanting to do in the Navy--Yet)...
he has orders to report to the USS Carl Vinson in Norfolk, VA and is excited about sailing on the magnificent Aircraft Carrier as it journeys towards Japan. In this program he gets the opportunity to "strike" out at his main interest (Media) and also view other jobs on the ship that could spark an interest for which he does not have to wait the usual two yrs for if he qualifies for that position. It's really an interesting way for the Navy to get sailors involved in jobs that are rarely spoken of on a ship. I wasn't crazy about the "undesignated" program either, but after researching it online and talking to the recruit office in my area....there is much positivity to it that I hope my son takes advantage of.
Where is your son going to be working???

I dont think they get there bonus's until after boot camp or A school ?
My son went in as Navy Diver, but has since changed to electrician.
Well at least last call he said he was going to change.

bonus' dont come until after A school and they have seen thier firdt duty. Then they SHOULD see it in about 4-6 weeks after that.

My daughter got her bonus 2-3 weeks after she got her orders and reported to Norfolk. They do have to provide some information in order to get it deposited into their accounts.,

Kyle is headed to BUDs after boot camp and an 8 week long SEAL prep program.

Kim,
Our son is a SEAL and just came home from IRAQ. He had his PIR back on 1 July 2004, his sister followed him into the Navy and was Number 1 @ PIR on 7 September 2007. When does your son PIR?
