Navy For Moms

My son James is an MA ( Master at Arms). I've seen moms of seabees, nukes and seals.I think it will be interesting to learn about all the jobs in the Navy. With this discussion a mom with Q's about a job or duty can find someone with experience :) Melissa.

Hi....my son joined Aug 31 and we thought that was what he was going to be Air Rescue....like a firefighter....he ended up an ABH....Aviation Boatwain's Handler....on the flight deck. It is the 5th most dangerous jobs in the Navy. He explained it to me as the guys who have to catch the jet line as it lands and secures the line before take off. Sometimes I think they direct the jets when they land on the Aircraft carrier. He did really well in BC and very well in A school. Only 5 of the guys in his class got placed on an aircraft carrier. I really think the Navy puts you were they need you and were you will be safe and do a good job. He works 12hrs a day--7 days a week. I am really proud of him. He likes it. His now on his first deployment and it is difficult not being able to talk with him. I wish your son the very best and you too. Thank him for me. We're all proud of all of our sailors. Smooth sailin. Andrea

My son Adam signed up for Avionics, (AT) but his eyesight got worse during bootcamp, so he was moved to Storekeeper (SK). He is currently in "A" school in Meridian, MS. Haven't run into anyone else whose sailor is doing this or is in Meridian.

My son Matthew is currently in BC and will PIR July 3. He wanted to do AM,but he was told all those positions were full, so he will head to Meridian MS for "A" school to become a Storekeep (SK). (Or at least that was the plan when he enlisted)

As I've written in other forums, my daughter is going to the Persian Gulf after her A school. How do they get there? By air or by sea? Is it possible that you can be in the navy and never have any time on a ship?

Thats a good question........ I think the answer is yes. It depends on your rate. I dont think Seals are ever deployed on ships, I wouldnt think seebees or corpsmen do ship duty. Probably many rates dont
What rate is your daughter going to be ?
