A School at Great Lakes

Is there a list anywhere of what kind of training is available in A School at Great Lakes?

Hi I found this on the web:

The following rate training class A-schools are located at NTC Great Lakes:

* Electronics Technician (ET)
* Fire Control Technician (FC)
* Gunners Mate (GM)
* Interior Communications Technician (IC)
* Boatswain's Mate (BM)
* Hospital Corpsman (HM)
* Electrician's Mate (EM)
* Culinary Specialist (CS)

In addition, all Navy rates that require basic electricial knowledge and troubleshooting training complete Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) school. This includes some aviation rates prior to detachment to their respective school locations. Some surface rates complete Surface Common Core (SCC) Basic Maintenance Training.

QM also...Quarter Master at least I hope so my son has been there since Aug on hold waiting for aschool to start lol ... gosh that would be awful to have been there this long and it was some place else........

Do they have to wait until the current class graduates? My daughter is waiting for GM A-school to start. I think I read on another page the currant class doesn't get done until Dec. What do they do while they wait? Laura

They just wait LOL they will do watch/duty until it starts

No they just have to wait til they have enough people to start as a class.

Hi Colleen, Yes, QM A school is at GL. Did your son ever start QM A school? If so, what was his total wait time between boot camp and A school? andMy son is also waiting, but he did not graduate Boot Camp until Sept 26th. Thanks Much, Tracy in Washington

Hi Laura, My son PIR on 10/3 and will be starting Gunners Mate. He said he has to do the ATT and the SCC first and then A school starts in about 4 months. Navy told him he would be in Chicago for 156 days but other Gunner Mate's there said he will be in chicago for about a year. Welcome to the site, it's great and I've made so many friends.
