Navy For Moms

Hi all! Our son, Eric, left for GL this past week. So far, everything has happened as we expected. He took his cell phone with him, so we got a call as they landed in Chicago and then the I'm here call going on 1 am. I spoke with his recruiter yesterday, no address yet but they did know he had been put in a 900 division. Fingers crossed we get the address tomorrow! This sure is a weird transition. We are finding ourselves constantly wondering what he is doing and how he's holding up. Our mantra has become, no news is good news!!

Hi, Cari! Our son left on 9/17. I just got his address in the mail on Friday. I know what you mean by the transition. This is the first real weekend without our son here to do his chores.....so, I have been doing double duty trying to cover them. The bad news is that it's more work...the good news is that our trash pickup has halved and our grocery bill has halved since he left! lol I await your "stalking the mail man" post! I swore I wouldn't do it but I did when I was waiting for the address. Hang in there! These ladies out here are great.

Hi Cari! Our son, Mark, left 9/24! We got the "hey, I'm here" call the next night. He spent the first night in Atlanta near the airport. I wonder if he could be in the same division as Eric.?? I called the recruiter yesterday and he told me that it would probably be a few more days befoe we got the mailing address. (I had heard from some other moms that it only took 2 or 3 days.) We are also on double duty around here, but I am sure the things we're having to do are nothing compared to BC sfuff! I will be so glad when it's over for us and I'm praying around the clock for the safety and welfare of our kids up there at the GL's. Hope to chat with you later!

It would be great if they were together...at least for us! There is a chance that Mark is in the next group though. From what we were told, the kids for a group start to arrive in Thurs and the last ones in arrive on Wed..and they start Thurs. I'm not sure if that makes sense...I may need more coffee! At any rate...we're in this together!! What is Mark planning to do after GL? Eric will be off to Pensacola for Aircrew and then Aviation Electronics...with an attempt to be rescue certified somewhere in there.

Mark was told that he would be going to Sub school to be a machinist mate. I think his school will be in Connecticut ........LONG way from Georgia!!! I wish Mark could go to Pensacola! He really wanted something in the area of video/photography/technology but was told after he tested that he needed to go another direction ..... I wish I knew more about how they determine those things ........ this military stuff is even more complicated than I ever imagined!

Hey Nancy! Where are you "stationed"???? ..... I'm way down south in Georgia .... hoping to get the box tomorrow. The days aren't speeding up any since Mark left ..... gonna keep prayin' that it's a short two months!

I hope the stuff they put them in is comfortable! I wonder what all is issued to them??? OMG at the questions and all the stuff that I have thought of since my son left! It is really like being in a strange dream. I hope our young-uns are all well and thriving!!! I need to learn some new relaxation skills! I have written several letters and will be ever so glad when we finally get their addresses. Have a good evening!

Nancy, did your daughter fly out of Baltimore to Chicago?

Reply to This

Yes, I'm finding my mind wandering all the time! Do you have her address yet? I spoke with Eric's recruiter today and he claims to have checked this morning, but it's his day off so I have my doubts. Usually it's available within a couple of days at most.

There was a girl from VA that flew out with Eric, when you mentioned the school in VA I thought maybe your daughter was her.

There is a good chance your daughter and Eric are in the same division though. The 900 division has the band as well as all other performing areas. We can't wait to see what Eric is doing!

Maybe we'll meet at graduation!!

My son arrived in GL 9/25. Spoke with his recruiter today and he gave me his address. He is ship 13, Div 06. I guess the numbers must have started over. He told me he should have completed his p days Saturday and yesterday 9/29 should have been his 1-1 day. If this turns out to be true, looks like PIR will be 11/21 for us. We should receive official packet soon I guess. Would love to hear from any of you. We are all going through the same thing. Great support group here!

Hi Andria! Gee, can I borrow your recruiter?! We haven't been able to get any info yet. I'm sticking my hubby on him today, fingers crossed we can get some letters mailed today.

What is your son going to be doing when he leaves Great Lakes? Mine is off to Pensacola for Aircrew and then Aviation Electrician (AE).

This sure is a learning experience!!

Stephen is going to be a corpsman. His school will be a GL so I guess he will spend Thanksgiving and Christmas there. The recruiters are required to send each of their recruits one letter while they are at BC. They get their address as soon as they are processed in. All they have to do is go online and pull it up. My son's recruiter said he got the address yesterday I just didn't go up there until today to ask. I just hope the address he gave me is the right one. When I was looking around this site, all the division numbers were in the 100's like 487,982 etc. I guess they start over sometime. Div 06 just seemed strange but then again I did read another post where a mom had posted that her son was in division 10 on a ship so maybe it's right. I hope so, I mailed 5 letters this morning and sent the address to all the extended family.
