Navy For Moms

Hi all! Our son, Eric, left for GL this past week. So far, everything has happened as we expected. He took his cell phone with him, so we got a call as they landed in Chicago and then the I'm here call going on 1 am. I spoke with his recruiter yesterday, no address yet but they did know he had been put in a 900 division. Fingers crossed we get the address tomorrow! This sure is a weird transition. We are finding ourselves constantly wondering what he is doing and how he's holding up. Our mantra has become, no news is good news!!

Hello Cari, my husband left California on the same day that your son left. And he is also in the same ship and division. The Chief PO gave me his address and I just wanted to share it with everyone.

SR (seaman recruit) LAST NAME, FIRST NAME MI.
SHIP 13, DIVISION 006
RECRUIT TRAINING COMMAND
GREAT LAKES, IL 60088

I just sent my letters to him a few hours ago. But now I'm worried because I didn't put 3420 Sailor Drive...the Chief PO just said to put Ship 13, Division 006.

Be careful of the addresses the recruiters give you. They are not always correct. You'll get the correct one when you receive the 3 liner form letter from RTC which comes about 1.5 to 2 weeks after they are in GL. I'm telling you this because our son's recruiter gave us the wrong one and it has happened to many other families. I know you're all dying to get those letters sent, but if it doesn't go to the correct place, there will be delays. You'd be surprised at the process the mail goes through once it gets to RTC. Continue to write daily until you do get the form letter. It's wonderful to see their handwriting, even if they only have 3 lines to write on.

You have a great mantra. Keep it up!

Good luck Moms and God bless! I'd like to say PIR will come in no time, but I can't. You've found a great site for encouragement, support, info and whatever else you need. There are lots of us that have chosen to stay on this site to help other Mom's, sort of a Pay It Forward kind of thing. So, don't hesitate to write. My son's PIR was 8/15. He stayed in GL for his Corpsmen training.

I started a "group" for those of us with kids set for PIR on 11/21. Go to Groups and do a search for PIR 11/21 and it should come up...see you there!!
