Navy For Moms

Hi all! Our son, Eric, left for GL this past week. So far, everything has happened as we expected. He took his cell phone with him, so we got a call as they landed in Chicago and then the I'm here call going on 1 am. I spoke with his recruiter yesterday, no address yet but they did know he had been put in a 900 division. Fingers crossed we get the address tomorrow! This sure is a weird transition. We are finding ourselves constantly wondering what he is doing and how he's holding up. Our mantra has become, no news is good news!!

Yea, that would have been nice. When did your son arrive in GL? Did he fly out of Baltimore? Justin left BWI on 9/25. Maybe they met up at MEPS. As soon as we find out PIR info., I will start a group for that PIR day so we can all chat there.

Eric flew out of BWI on the 24th. Any sign of the form letter? None here..I had hoped it would be today. Maybe tomorrow, which would figure. Our mail comes later afternoon and I'm heading to Westminster for a couple of days early afternoon. Maybe they'll get to write this Sunday...fingers crossed!

Hello Marie,

My son arrived early in GL in AM on Friday 08.19.08. I have received the box from him with his personal things. I have also received the form letter with the three line personal comments and a mailing address. He is in DIV 436 USS KEARSARGE in BLDG 7114. Where do I go on the web to try to check for his PIR date? Also how and when do they deposit his pay? I know he took a void check with him to GL with bank routing numbers for his direct deposit. He left me instructions to check on his deposit, etc. Thanks

Hi my son Cody is in that exact division 006 and ship #13. We got the box yesterday, but nothing else yet. Would you suggest writing to him with the information we have already or waiting for the "official" letter with the address? I'm so glad I found someone who is in the same division as Cody, makes me feel not so alone anymore. I'm hoping and praying for him everyday. He was in some trouble before he left and I feel this is last chance to prove to me and everyone that he can do the right thing. He's such a good kid with a great heart, I just hope he keeps his ears and eyes open and his mouth shut.;-)

Hey Janet, what is Cody's ship name and the street name? I am also praying constantly and can't get my mind to stop thinking about what they're doing up there. I had to call in sick today from work ...back problems .......and I think some of it is due to stress. I have been pretty much a mess since Mark left. I keep telling myself that he is a grown man and he'll be okay, but my heart still doesn't seem whole. Most of my family still lives close by and it is really hard having one of us away!!! And it wouldn't be so bad if we could just talk to them on the phone or via email ...... it just really stinks! We sent some mail off last night hoping that it gets there. The address the recruiter gave us didn't look like the other's I've seen and he did say that he didn't think the division number was correct. I'm sure Cody will be fine!

His Ship name is Marvin Shield, street name is Sailor Drive. I hope to find out if it's all correct, I know some others were getting thier letters today. I will find out if I got mine here in a few. I made a page for Cody on here which has helped keep my mind off things today. It is hard not to communicate, but I can see why they do it. I know that if he were still talking to his friends his mind wouldn't be where it needed to be right now. I hope time goes a little faster now that we can start writing and knowing where they're at. This first week has been dragging by.

We were told Mark's ship is Marvin G. Shields too, but Indiana Street was the street name the recruiter gave us. I certainly hope that we get the form letter with the correct address listed. Let's hope for a FAST week 2 and beyond!!! I do wonder if Cody and Mark know each other...???

It seems as if the Navy has changed the way they would like the letters addressed. Our form letter came today and the address was different.

Hey Nancy! What day is Megan's birthday? I have been some better, back is better, but shoulders and neck have hurt today ....it may be sympathy pains for our precious little soldiers ......I have cried a little off and on the last 2 days, but not nearly as much as before. I will send more mail tomorrow. I want to send pictures but wanted to make sure I had the right address ..... I wonder if the addresses have changed. How do you do 12 hour shifts???!!!

I would start writing now. They do not usually get there letters the first two weeks. But, when they do, they really crave mail call. Even the children that usually do not care much about writing really beg for mail. When my oldest was at GL in May he wrote in every letter for us to write everyday...he said that for the time that it took him to read his mail that he could almost forget where he was. lol I even started writing to one of his ship mates that was not getting much mail. So, in answer to your question, yes! Start writing now and write often. Marie
