MN Mineman A School - Anyone have a son or daughter in this program?

My son just graduated basic 10-3-08 and is now at GL to start electronics prep school for MN. Later he will be sent to Ingleside,Tx for MN A school.
Does anyone have a son or daughter in this program?

I have started a group for MN, please look for it! Let's share stories, info and advice!

Oh wow!! I thought I would never find someone with a son in this program!! My son's PIR was on 9-26 and he is also at GL...waiting.

Hi! Guess we are the first although I ws getting a little desperate to learn more so I also started a MN group! Please join me there and lets hope we find others.

My son PIR'd on 10-3 and is in GL ready to start electronics prep school next week. After they complete the course which I understand is really tough, they then get sent to A school in Ingleside, Tx. That is their main US base and they will stay there till they finish classes, 109 days long.

I found a group of guys that are MN in the Navy via My Space of all things, how crazy is that? I went there to search out others since I didn't find any news elsewhere or anyone with kids in that group. If you care to learn more...let me know!

My son, Steve just joined the Navy. He is on delayed entry to Boot Camp in July 2009, and then after that goes to Ingleside, TX for his MN Training. I will check out the website, because this appears to be a very small group.

Welcome aboard and know we are here to share whatever info we can regarding this field.

It is a small group and they become very tight knit since they are aboard smaller ships, working in a "shop like" environment. There is alot of high technology employed in this field and because it is top secret, we find little info on the web regarding their jobs, whereabouts, etc.

After basic or boot camp, they remain at Great Lakes for electronics school prior to A school in Texas. Ricky is there now and he has become friends with 4 or 5 others in their same job or rating. They all get along and because the group is small, attend classes together and help eachother with their studies.

So far so good for my son who tells me that he will probably finish these classes the end of this month and be shipped to Texas,

My son Chris is a Mineman. He graduated from bootcamp 11/22/07 and has been in Ingleside since. Right now he is deployed to Bahrain on the USS Ardent. Anyone else have a sailor on this ship?

Also read a bit about their career choice, follow the links I have provided below. And yes, a bit disconcerting to say the least!
Ingleside is slated to be closed later this year and the MN school will be transferred to San Diego. Ricky is in Ingleside now and he likes it there because folks are very nice and he had also missed the warmth and sunshine. He confirmed to me the base closure info but doesn't have any dates.

When my son told me about his MN rating I was very worried but he assured me it is quite safe and that because it is not the most popular choice, the enlisted tend to move up quicker in this field. I guess my son was dazzled over the prospect of moving up in rank earlier. I can't say that this puts my fears aside but you know how that goes, what is done is done.
