Navy For Moms

Hey all,
When do our guys/gals get their first pay in boot camp. I know pays are the 1st and 15th of the month. My son left me some instructions and his pay wasn't direct deposited. He left for boot camp on Oct 2nd. I know they take out for uniforms and such but do they get a check first? I have to plan and make sure he has $$ in his bank account. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

HI,

I just looked on my son's he left July21st, and got his first pay deposited into the bank on 8/15 but that it depends on too when they submit the paperwork. If they come in the beginning they might wait til the section is closed and then submit all the paperwork at once so that could defer a week or two. hope that helps :)

Just to be very clear, Navy Fed CU is NOT run by the Navy. It is simply a credit union that bases membership on DoD status. After boot camp, the sailor can pretty much have the money sent to multiple accounts. Between my hubby and myself, we had our paychecks going into five different credit unions and banks, plus the allotment for child support. Military spouses can do nothing with pay unless they have a POA, very frustrating. However, a spouse can be on the Navy Fed account.

The first month's pay is going to seem wrong, things can take a while to settle out. I know we can access hubby's retired pay online, I'd be willing to bet active duty can too. This site may be informative:

Hi Marie,
I have my son home from A school for the holidays and his friend too..who my boys grew up with, he is in the Navy also..7 yrs. They said he should not need any money because he's issued a recruit card. Credit for all the necessary things he needs and it should be enough..but sending stamps is a good thing. He is issued everything else he needs, clothing..etc.They said he can't have magazines, newspapers..etc I sent phone cards so my son could use the pay phone. That was a Godsend. He eventually will be able to call you. He will want to talk to you a long, long time after Battle Stations. Maybe it's for pictures of graduation. My son needed 175.00 deposited. My son graduated the 26th of November and spent 8 hours sitting in an airport on Thanksgiving. He is stationed in Pensacola, FL for A school (that hasn't started yet). He was jogging on the beach the morning he came home...We live in Central NY and have 5 feet of snow. He arrived and said I'd rather be here with you Mom than in 75 degree weather. I love him...Hang in there, Marie. He'll be done before you know it. Good things are ahead for him. Stay in touch, Navy Moms got me through this and I thank them all.
