Navy For Moms

Hi to all. My son is right now sitting at a hotel awaiting the morning swearing in and being put on an airplane. I sit here at my computer already getting support from this great site. I was hoping to find others who have their recruits with that lovely unknown Christmas time graduation date. My son is 18, and for the most part has always been around. I was fine until this evening when I got home from work and realized he wasn't here. I couldn't be prouder of the decision he has made and look forward to his adventures he will have. I am glad he at least has done the whole buddy program and at least has one person he knows right now. I also can't wait to see him in his uniform. He is so tall and thin, but I think that will make him a bit easier to spot at his PIR. I am slowly learning those acronyms.Would love to hear from those moms who have others in the Christmas batch.

Carleen, hang in there. Things will get better, I promise. I hope you get his call when he arrives. Things seem to be easier to mom's who do. I didn't get mine and almost went crazy. You have to be very patient since things don't always turn out the way they are supposed to. PIR stands for parade in review and that's the navy's way of saying graduation. Once you get the form letter, which will arrive about a week after he gets to boot camp, you will know his address and his DIV #, then you can check http://www1.netc.navy.mil and look up his graduation date. They get posted every Friday. You'll also get the box with his belongings, all the things he took with him and that he is not allowed to keep. This usually breaks you down, it's kind of like the definite separation from home. It's harder on us then on them. Check the different groups in this web site and join the ones that you feel identified with. Ask as many questions as you want, no matter how silly it may seem. You are sure to get them answered by someone. Welcome aboard!!!

Stephanie, I'm hoping that my son is with Joey. He is in Div 38 - and I haven't received a "letter" yet just the form letter. I did, however, already reserve my hotel room!!! My son, David, is going to San Antonio after BC. When I read that you wrote "I'll be home for Christmas" - it made me so happy!!!

Connie, I guess we may run into each other. I am so relieved to at least have a date and make some plans. It will be interesting traveling to Chicago at Christmastime. It will be so worth it. I am going to make some reservations in Waukegan I think. Now, I am back to square one with having no experience in all this.
