Blue Candle Lighting on Christmas Day. Several have asked,,, is there a special blue candle? No
Several have asked how many days and how long.? The burning of the candle length is determined by the one lighting the candle.

Once, again this lighting of the blue candle represents the sailors, recruits and military that will not be joining their families during the holidays. This being done because we want to remember the families that are seperated. Some of our children and spouses are coming home and some are not so let us all remember the great sacrifice our men and women do in the service of our country.
Remember any kind of candle will do ,,,blue electric or wax. We thankyou and if you want to comment please do.. also RSVP your attendance if you are doing so in the Events.

I hope a light blue candle is alright. I could not find a dark blue one. I will be lighting this for my son and other Sailors who cannot be home for Christmas. He came home for Thanksgiving. He went to the Reagan a week ago - so we did Christmas early this year for him.

I'm in Blairstown, New Jersey

Ladies, candle or not blue is great Light it. The thought is for the sailors not necessarily the way we do it. I have blue lights and blue candles and If I could I would paint my cedar trees Blue... Thankyou for responding...
Any Candle Any Size.... Light any size...of course if we see A Big Blue Flood Light above the capital on Christmas night I don't want to know who might have done that. I know we moms with the faith of a mustard seed can move a mountain. Merry Christmas

blue is blue,,, whether light or dark,,, It seems in the Navy there are a spectrum of blues...Dark blue Waves,,,light blue skies,,, and those vary from day to day.... Any size candle will do.... we have subs and we have destroyers and we have rescue boats and helicopters. .... the Navy comes in many sizes. The thought is what we are out to accomplish...
to honor our sailors and other branches of the military. I thought of the blue candle because it needed to stand out from,,,red, white at christmas... something to stand and say.."NOTICE ME and ask why I was lit" the answer should be..... TO HONOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT WITH US AND THEIR FAMILIES... and that is why the blue candle... maybe one blue candle on a little cup cake in the middle of a large table of food... ONE LITTLE BLUE CANDLE,,,with one great big thought behind it.... in honor of those not with us today.

After reading all the posts to this discussion, I think I will go out and see if I can find those electric candles that people put in their windows at Christmas time and different colored bulbs and light 1 for each branch of the military. :)

This is a wonderful idea! I will be lighting a candle in Fort Collins, Colorado this Christmas, as he left for boot camp 2 weeks ago and I miss him SO much. I haven't heard from him yet, but just in case he calls us on Christmas Day, I will be sure to tell him about the blue candle -- and to tell him to convey all loving thoughts and wishes to the recruits with him in his division. Thanks so much for suggesting such a beautiful gesture of pride and gratitude to our service men and women! :)

As promised earlier, San Antonio will be lighting a beautiful blue candle. I bought 1 big one for me to light Christmas day and again New Year's Eve it will be burning to bring in the New Year. I also passed out 13 to my co-workers today and everyone in my family will get one this Sunday when we celebrate our gift exchange. Hopefully my T-Shirt I ordered will be in. It says, "Got Freedom? Thank a Sailor" Merry Christmas to you all!!

This is beautiful. I have never heard it before but I will be shopping tomorrow for a blue candle to light on Christmas Day. My son will not be here physically but he will be with me in spirit and I for him. I will be going out tomorrow and buying every blue candle I can and share with them the meaning. I don't know what to say....God Bless Us and our Loved Ones.
