Navy For Moms

Is there anyone who can fill me in on how the Adopt A Sailor program works. My son Jordan just left for bootcamp yesterday and this is the first time he will be away from home for Christmas, and I am worried that he will be stuck on base all by himself on Christmas. He will be at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois. Appreciate any feedback

What exactly is holiday routine? I haven't heard that term used before.

If you are going to be adopting your sailor, my advice is to get there early, I went at the time the letter specified last year and was there for almost two hours waiting to pick him up, we were at the end of the pack. Another thing is IHOP was open and that was about it. Take some food if you can, I know it is a little late to be posting this, because most of you are probably already there, but have a great time with your Sailor.

He won't be on his own, he will be there with his over 100 of his new best friends. And some wonderful RDC's who will insure they are all taken care of.

Usually the Fleet and Family Centers on base can help you out with that one. You can google the Great Lakes base on line and look up the base locator for services they have. When my military dependent/now active duty children travel I always network with the Navy Family we've built up over the last 22 years.....you might be surprised where you have cousins, aunts, uncles & friends.

Last Thanksgiving I contacted the base chapel in Jacksonville to see if they had any single sailors that would be interested in joining us for the holidays.
