Good Morning, this is my first time posting.  My youngest son will be in the August 24th PIR.  I've shed many tears since leaving him after the enlistment ceremony.  I know that he is in a good place and cannot wait to see him.  Our family is so truly proud!  How do you handle the tears that seem to come so often when you think about them?

My son (my oldest) went to Great Lake Aug 2 I do't know his graduation date yet and have not got a letter yet, but I think I will soon.

I let myself cry when I feel it coming on.  I try and keep busy.  Also I pray my boy is strong and stronger than me....

I keep in mind the idea of how boot camp works... it breaks you down so you learn no one is any better than anyone else and every one is equal and that is the tough part of boot camp and then towards the end they build you back up and you learn to be a team...  I try and focus on the fact it gets better and gets way better once it is graduation time....

Hi Marcia1976 Welcome to Navy Moms. Here is al ittle information for you.

To guesstimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays, after your recruit arrived, including the Friday of the week that your recruit arrives at the RTC, to get the most likely PIR (graduation) date, It could either be a week before or a week later depending on when that Div. was filled. Sometimes a div. waits for more Recruits to come in to fill up that division or say his div didnt fill up and they wait for the next group to come in and fill. here the site to find info on that.  Arrival and What Happens at the RTC. this will explain receiveing the box and the form letter as well. if you have any questions please feel free to reach out. It can be a very Emotional rollercoaster , but you are in good hands.

I have read the what happens at arrival, lots of good info...

I estimate Sept 28 graduation but like you said could be week before or after  depending...

I do think that when he went in on Aug 2 he went in with his entire division of 80 recruits, he was with the group of recruits that swore in at the Chicago White Sox game on Aug 2 and I believe it was said that was their entire division was there and going in together that day...

Oh How Nice, that was special!

There are groups for each graduation date.  I can send you a link if you like so that you can contact one of the admins for assistance regarding possible graduation date. In the meantime, you should be getting a "form" letter from your son soon which will list his address  as well as everyone he would like to have at his graduation.  Fill out that form with all the information, make a copy and then send it back to his address at BC.  In the meantime start writing letters, # each one and as soon as you get that address start sending them.  You may not get anything back for several weeks from him.  I was in your place 8 weeks ago - it is not easy and I cried a lot and still do.  Once I got to hear that beautiful voice of his which was around week 4/5 I knew that he was okay.  He cried, I cried, my husband and his sisters cried but they were tears of joy.  He'll be okay and so will you, this is not easy but we need to be strong for them.  NMHs (Navy Mom Hugs)
