Sorry for double posting, but this wasn't getting any hits in the Jax group:

Hey everyone, hoping that someone might be able to answer this once and for all. My boyfriend is at NAS Jacksonville and I'm trying to figure out a way to move down there with him, but we're not entirely sure how housing works for those in our situation. We want to wait a few years to get married, so obviously we can't live on base together. At first, the impression I got just from browsing around here was that he couldn't live off base at all until he makes E4. However, he says there's a guy in his squadron who is E2 and has an apartment with his girlfriend, so we could live together but he wouldn't recieve any BAH until we got married or he made 3rd class. BUT, the DOD website's BAH calculator lists an allowance for E2's in Jacksonville, without dependents. Does anyone know exactly how this works?

This is the link for the FFSC at NAS Jacksonville.  I was just there last week and folks were really helpful.  For Financial advice, ask to speak with Rufus; he will be a great resource for you. You may have to ask your
Sailor to initiate the conversation, since technically only family members can utilize FFSC services.

Big decisions facing you; my advice would be to take your time and not rush into anything.  Good luck!

I was stationed at Naval Hospital Jax in NAS Jax. I know if the barracks were at a certain capacity a sailor can request to move out and request "single" BAH. Granted a lot of paperwork had to be submitted, especially a financial counseling but I have seen E3's move out. I am now in Japan and at least for the hospital sailors same rules apply, if barracks are at a certain level request can be put in. I dont recommend living out in town so early on, I've seen a lot of people get in trouble for mishandling money, being late to work etc. Be patient, he'll be able to make E4 in no time, I wnet from E1-E4 in Jax, just be patient.
