Navy For Moms

I just got a call from my daughter at boot camp. She could only talk for a minute but she said they are sending her home because she has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I know what PTSD is I don't really understand why she has it or how she has been diagnosed with it. But, what I would really like to know is...Is there anyone out there that can tell me what this means for her now? What will happen? Can she never go back? Will she be provided with counceling and or medication? or is she just out and on her own?

I never of heard PTSD in boot camp, maybe somebody else has. I just wanted to say I'm sorry they are sending her home.

As far as I remember, if they think they caused it, they will help her transition back to civilian life and once she has treatment for it, she may be able to enlist again. If they determined it is from before she enlisted, she will be on her own and may not be able to re-apply. You should contact her recruiter and find out more. They still can get info on her until she completes Boot. I'll be praying for all of you!

Sorry to hear that. I know she has to be disappointed. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your daughter.

She will be able to give you details...if she cares to share. She might have some residual phobia from something that happened to her prior to enlisting. For instance, a car accident, a personal attack, close spaces, fear of heights...things that could affect her in a life or death situation where she would be responsible for protecting herself and her fellow sailor...

Talk to her Recruiter, they will know what that label will mean for her.

Those are just a couple of things that come to me off the top of my head...boy that's rough, all the anticipation and future...help her make a plan, don't let her wallow in it...that will set her up for a long road of depression and feelings of failure and self medicating possibly. Embrace her Mom, as you always have! She really needs you now...good luck to you and God bless your daughter.

Once you have been diagnosed with PTSD or any mental formality you get a RE-4 enlistment code for condition not disability. witch means she won't be able to join a service again. the navy is really hard on this sort of thing specially when it happens in boot camp. Sorry to hear this and I hope she can find something better suited for her

My thoughts are with you and your daughter. My son was sent for an eval, but he was placed back into a division. It was almost 4 days from the time I first found out there was a problem to when my son called me and told me he was staying in. It is a very difficult thing to be separated from your family. Your family will be in my prayers.

It may not look this way now but it could be a blessing in disguise. Hopefully your daughter will get the proper care for this disorder. I wish her (and you) all the best and will keep you both in my prayers! Gods blessings to you.

Wow....o.k. that sucks. Makes me nervous for my son who just left Monday for BC. They do put those kids thru a ton of stress. Poor thing was under too much along with being sleep deprived i'm sure. She'll be alright and most likely be happy to be back home with you. After the initial feeling of disappointment she'll get back on her feet. Take a break and re-focus on something new. I wonder how common this is? How many are discharged for that. I did hear that 40% don't make it but I'm not sure I heard correctly. she's a tough cookie for trying in the 1st place.
