OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Just wanted to post this comment so all can be aware of the deceptive practices of Navy Federal Credit Union.  At my son's boot camp graduation in 2016, the Union was there signing up the graduates and their families for checking/savings account.  I signed up for a checking account and honestly have never used them.  I decided to close the account after they charged me a $3.00 fee for non-usage.  This was back in April 2018.  I have yet to see my money despite 10 calls to them, several faxes I had to sign and re-sign, hours on the phone being transferred from person to person. Despite many assurances that a check was disbursed to date I have not received ANYTHING.  I last called them on 6/4/2018 when they assured me by looking up my notes in the computer that a check went out 5/31/18.  I called them again on 6/11/18 and told them this.  The customer service rep said nothing went out and nothing was noted in my file.  DO NOT LET your loved ones sign up with these people.  They will never see their money again.

 So after numerous posts and complaints to the BBB, Federal Reserve Board, the Union site, several television stations, someone from their "Care Team" on June 11, 2018 at 6:04pm with such concern about my situation. They apologized over and over. They were so sorry but I would have to send another Declaration of Loss form. This will be the 4th time I have sent it. She assured me that this would be taken care of and gave me her email address and direct number. LIARS!! It's a bogus email and phone number. Have not heard anything from them. I have not heard anything from ANYBODY. This is the sort of thing that News stations love to hear about. This is a government agency that is supposed to support our Servicemen, women and their families. This is the type of story that they love to expose

NFCU is NOT a government agency.  

My husband and I have been members, both separately and jointly, since 1979.  We have NEVER had an issue with NCFU, have always had great customer service, and have found them useful both globally and locally.   I have many veteran friends who continue to use NFCU for their retired or VA pay, no problem. I ABSOLUTELY recommend them for active duty.  

Maybe there's another factor in your case.  

Thank you for the clarification about the Agency.  I am very happy to know that you and your husband have not had a problem with them.  I'm not sure what other factor could have played in this clearly poorly managed customer service situation.  I really hope they look into it so it does not happen again.  Until the situation is resolved I will continue to post updates.

This morning I did hear from yet another representative who again assured me that this would be resolved and a check would be federal expressed to me.  This was only after my morning post that I had heard nothing from them all day yesterday.  We shall see . . .

Everyone has a right to their opinion. And there's a first time for everything.  Unfortunately it did happen to me and no I will not "get lost" until I receive my money.  Yes unless you are in my shoes you have no idea how this impacts me.  You have a right to believe whatever you want.  I have no reason NOT to tell the whole story so I will continue to post everywhere and files complaints with ALL the agencies until this is resolved.  I have no idea what the intentions are of the Union.  I can only speak about my experiences with them thus far.  I totally agree something does not sound right.  It doesn't take that long to close an account and receive your funds.  So clearly something isn't right.  And yes news stations love to hear about consumers getting ripped off and getting the run around from large corporations.

OK everyone - let's step back and take a deep breath. 

Maudie, I'm sorry you had a problem with NFCU.  My son has been with them for 6+ years and has never had a problem either - but that doesn't mean that something couldn't have gone awry with your experience.  It shouldn't have taken that long for them to rectify the situation but I'm glad it's (hopefully) finally being resolved.  Again, from my experience NFCU has always been very helpful and positive in any dealings with our military.

There is no reason for you to "get lost".

Perhaps it's time to "close the comments" on this discussion.
