Profound words, Bea, I intend to read them often. The Navy is what it is, and unfortunately, there is not much which can substitute for direct experience with the military. Some of it isn't pleasant, for sure!

Thanks, Bea. I am afraid that if such a book was written, it would scare the new moms spitless. We'd have to call it Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here. LOL, no, really, it would be a good resource.

I've had a few upfront talks with my nephew, he is in nuke school, and I read him the Riot Act about drinking and childish behavior and responsibility before he left. His uncle did too, and he listened to us well. His mom raised him right, but you don't raise a sailor, you raise a young person who then allows the Navy to make them into a sailor. So far the nephew has kept his nose clean. He had a couple close calls, one from bad information from a source of authority and one from the actions of his shipmates, but he seems to have found the right path to take him successfully through his career goals.

May they all succeed, no matter where life's journey takes them.

Anti M,
The art of helping a mom see the reality of the situation without causing more pain or casting negative light on the her son/daughter is something another mom learns through experience and experience alone. Each child is unique. Every mom deserves a ray of hope regarding her child. That is what keeps her going. If we help a mom in need see that little sliver of daylight at the end of the tunnel, sometimes that is all is needed to prevent a disaster or another of our young generation from going down the path of depression and/or destruction.
I am not a gifted writer like some of the others on this site - like yourself.
