Daughter left 8-15. Got a letter today. She is mentally freaking out. Any ideas of what to do?

You need to reassure her that she can do this. Be upbuilding. My son's first letter was not good either. He talked about regret and not being sure he could finish. He also really missed home and felt bad about his role in BC (he didn't have a leadership role like he wanted). I started writing to him every single day and have kept that up the whole time. He's scheduled to PIR next Friday. He told me the letters helped and the letters gradually started getting more positive. I also sent him two encouragement cards (no glitter or any decorations that can fall off) along with letters. Keep being positive and encouraging and tell her how proud you are and that she can do it. Imagine if they were running a marathon and wanted to quit, you would encourage them to keep going, this is very similar.

It's normal for them to question what they have got themselves into in the beginning.  Usually after a couple of weeks things will turn around.  Start writing her lots of (positive) letters now so as soon as you get her address you can mail them out.  (Number them in the corner so she knows the order of them to open.)  Just remind her that she can do this - it's only 8 weeks and then she'll be on to her next adventure.  You've got to be her biggest cheerleader - she's got this mom and so do you!

She's doing something that not a lot of people will sign up for - she can do this!

Also, please join this group for boot camp moms, where you can get some extra support.

About 3 weeks then? That is pretty normal. She is under stress, and that is how the program works. You can't do anything about it, so try not to worry too much. She's got this. After about 4 weeks the division usually starts working together and things start to get better.

Just be the best encourager you can. Let her know she’s got this. Let her know everyone in boot camp feels the same way. Remind her of how proud she will be of herself when she is at her boot camp graduation knowing that she pushed through and accomplished this. Write lots and lots and lots of letters. They are a HUGE encouragement to the recruit.
