Navy For Moms

Greetings,
My son just did well what I thought was his swearing in last month, and he was informed that he won't be leaving for BT till August....He was told by his recruiter that its it's because of the economy.
He was crushed. He studied for months for the ASVAB so he would get a good score and hopefully get into a good A school. But then this happened.
He tried the "college" thing, but knew that when he started college the Navy was really what he wanted to do. So he's stuck in Washington were he was attending school, with no job- looking for one, and can't get started with what he wants to do till August......
Any suggestions, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated....
God Bless,
Laurie

HI Laurie,

it might be the field he wants to go in for or what he signed for, they might be full at the moment. But there is always a chance that he will be called in early so don't give up :). So now he is in the DEP program, he will be sworn in before he leaves for BC. Hope that helps.
But also go find Hoppi under members she gives some great advise also :)

Thanks for the information. I will stay forward this onto my son. I know that he has been in contact with his recruiter and has already informed him that he would like to leave early. So for now he and I will just have to be patient.

To repeat Kirsten's remark
Our son was told he would go to boot camp in Nov. Instead he went in June. Keep up with the recruiter and let them about desire to go at earliest date possible. It may be a cut in the contract pay, but it washes out in the end if he goes early.

As far as job-- there's always the temp agencies or employment office. It is not what he wants, but he may have luck in some temporary position to at least pay the bills.

Good luck and let us know how it progresses. We care.

Thank you for your response. I wasn't aware that we as parents could talk to the recruiters. But if we could it would be nice. My husband is retired Navy and I guess things have changed...
But again thank you for caring.....I will keep you informed.

I go to the Recruiting Office weekly! I ask TONS of questions! My husband and I wanted to make sure what they were telling Jacob was right and true.

Jacob was supposed to leave last June and is finally going on Sunday. If he would have changed fields, he could have left sooner. But since he has always dreamed of being Aircrew, he decided to wait.

If you ever have any questions, call or go see the recruiter...that is what they are there for.

Blessings galore,
Renee

My son was supposed to leave in January but he was in such a hurry to get going he switched his job and left on Oct 29th, he has made it through basic and is in A school now, I would suggest asking what jobs have open slots and switching his MOS.

Also its funny but with his first choice no bonus, switched jobs--got a bonus and he got to leave early.

My son wasnt suppose to leave until 2/2006 but he told his recruiter that if there is any chance that he can go sooner he wanted to go... so in Nov 2005 he got a call said if he wanted to go he had to leave tomorrow... the next day he was gone.. so just keep in touch and make sure the recruiter knows he wants to go earlier if someone drops out
Good luck
