Navy For Moms

Hey all. First time here. Just got to talk to my son for the first time since 10-28. He wants me to find out what items he will be allowed to bring to A school. He is taking CS and wants to bring his laptop and other personal items. Does anyone know where I can get that info or know what to tell him? I would appreciate any help in this. Belinda

I am not positive - but I think that most A schools work in phases. They can have laptops and cell phones right away and then they work up to civilian clothes, etc.

Thanks for your quick response. I was confused because I found a letter to the July class from the guy in charge and he stated that only items in the "sea bag" were allowed and all other items would be confiscated and returned at the end of class. And then I read letters where others were allowed to bring and use them.

I sent all the things my son wanted. I even got him an new ipod and player. They have there own desk and a real bed my son said. L.O.L . But he said after boot camp he could sleep any were. He had so many things be for he came home he boxed the up and mailed the things that would not fit in his sea bag.

It all done in phases. My son took just his sea bag with him from BC, than weeks later he was able to get his cell phone ect etc. But civillian clothes were not for weeks later.

I would check when he gets to his A school, but we too could send his cell phone, lap top, good running shoes, external hard drive as soon as he called us on his leftover calling card minutes and had an address. (sorry, kind of a run on sentence.)

You can use these items. But you can not bring them to ASchool from BC, you'll have to mail it to him. Kyle [CS] couldnt have these items till a certain time, so he bought them, i took them home w/ me and then when he said it was "okay" i mailed him the box, with civies and other items.

We were told he could have his cell phone and laptop and his guitar but he couldn't have it before he got there. Meaning he couldn't take it back with him at PIR. We are fortunate enough to live close enough to drive them all down to him. I am already getting his stuff together for as soon as he has his address. I am also going to bake cookies and send a care package down with hubby for his first few days since he can have that now.

Yes, my son could have a cell phone, laptop etc....but not until he was actually in A school. He could not take it back on base even after PIR. It was a couple of weeks I think before they earned the privledge to wear civilian clothes.

My daughter just went to A school. Her first two weeks she could not wear civilian clothes but could have her cell phone as long as it wasn't out of her barracks. She said different priviledges come with different levels. More relaxing than boot camp but not total freedom yet.

Hi, this is my first time here also. Just wanted to add what little bit I have learned in the last 4 months. In A school my son asked me to mail him his prize guitar and I did along with some clothes and a watch. Its amazing how much stuff you can get in a guitar and the case. Now with that said i don't know how he is going to get all of this stuff to the next school. Haha

The Navy will ship it if he qualifies for household goods move. I sent a box from Glakes down to my next (very, very long) school. Just a single giant packing box, the movers came to the barracks!

I was PCSing because of the length of the next school, it isn't usual, so he has to ask well beforehand and find out.

My son got his own cell phone plan in Chicago during PIR. I sent him a UPS box with his lap top, cell phone and then a box with clothes. He was told the battery had to be taken out of the cell phone when shipped to him. Dont remember why that was. Every time he has come home he has taken more stuff back with him.
