Navy For Moms

My son left for B/C on Nov 24. I received a letter from him this week. He stated that he had to have his 2 bottom wisdom teeth pulled. Does anyone have any information on this procedure during B/C?

Hi Cyndi,
My name is Charlene and I just joined this web site minutes ago. I saw the advertisement in my Country
Living magazine. It was perfect timing because the mail had just come and no letter yet!! My son Chris
also left on Nov. 24 and is in Div. 76, USS Theodore Rossevelt. So I am not sure really what that means as far
as how close our sons would be do you??? It took about a week and finally received his bag of clothes he
left in. Then another week went by and we received the info letter with two sentences from him at the bottom.
But we haven't received a phone call or letter yet. Did you ever receive a phone call when he arrived. I thought
it was mandatory, but we never did. I now wonder about my son's teeth, because he had a wisdom tooth that
was questionable. Do you know if your son was given some time off for his teeth? Well, if you have any info you
want to share with me please do, my husband and I are kind of in the dark about the whole process. I got online to read
about bootcamp and what it involves but besides that, we don't have a clue!! I don't know about you, but I really miss
my son and will feel better to hear his voice. This will be our first Xmas without him, kinda tough! Well, take care
and would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks Charlene

Hi Charlene,

Thanks for your response. My son Tyler was able to call the night he arrived. He actually arrived on the 25th. He left home for the Hotel on the 24th before he had to go to Meps. His call was around 11:00 MST We live in Denver. He actually called me from his cell phone. I think it has to do with the time they arrive and other factors. I have heard other say they did not get a phone call as well.

I have received 2 letters from him and then the form letter. The last letter I received was on Thursday. That is when he told me he was having 2 of his wisdom teeth pulled at the end of the week. So I assumed it was yesterday (on Friday). I was hoping he could call and tell me he was okay after the procedure. But I have not heard. (I am surprised that they pulled them because our dentist checked him a month before he left and said he was fine and didnt have to worry for a couple of years. Otherwise we would have had it done before he left.)

I had a really hard time the week he left. Tyler is my only child and I am a single mom. So we are very close.
I miss him more than words can express. He just turned 18 at the end of July, I was not ready for him to leave yet. They grow up too fast. I can not wait to see him in Jan.

Here is a link to the Recruit Training Command that gives the graduation dates. ( you may have to copy and paste in your browser) I believe both our sons graduate on Jan 23.

I am also reading a book Titled Honor, Courage, Commitment. Navy boot Camp by JF Leahy. It talks about what they are doing week to week during boot camp.

Keep in touch and let me know if you hear anything from your son and I will do the same.

thanks Cyndi

No but I did hear they undergo a dental exam and have dental treatment done during the processing days. My son left on 11-24-08 too.

Hi My name is Angie and Ben is my oldest son, That was the hardest day I ever had to go through.... waiting for the recruiter to pick him off and go off to bootcamp... I was literally sick to my stomach, and my head hurt soooooo bad from crying so much..... My heart felt like Jello.
He has always had me to care for him! we live in a small town,.... now he is wisked away to the "Real world"
NOBODY can protect him like I have for all these years. And I know nobody can or will love and care for this "baby" of mine, like I always have!!! I miss him so much and wonder why I let him go! I try to tell myself it will be so good for his future and I know it is.... he needs some direction of what to do and this small town is really no place to make a "Future"
But my heart aches for him.... Ben and I are soooooooo close, he is a Great Kid. Now I feel like I have lost "my buddy"
This probably sounds so "dumb" but I am just pouring out my feelings, cuz' don't you feel that way too.... I love this NavyforMoms cuz' it gives me comfort talking to real people that feel the same way that I do, And I am grateful for this forum that you started Cyndi, cuz' now I can talk to those of you that are closest to My son. We all have a connection, because the Ones that we love are Together. It is Very difficult to let go. I worry if this is TOO much for him, can he handle all this? I believe he is Physically..... but mentally...? I am not sure.
I have done so much research on what they have to do in bootcamp and beyond.... I'm like Ahh, I wish he was back home.
Ben left on the 25th arrived in GL on the 26th called me with his cell phone telling me he got there ok.
I received the "box" on the 5th day, a letter the next day.... telling me his recruiter was a Liar because there is A LOT more stuff to do than he Ever mentioned, then the form letter, saying "I hope I Make it!" Then this past Wednesday, I got another letter..... He got a shot in the butt that was horrible he said!
They get to write letters on Sundays.
I ordered that book too... Honor Courage & Commitment! I am waiting for it to arrive as I am Very Anxious to read it....
I write Ben letters Everyday and send pictures and just try to encourage him and let him know how proud I am of him.
Well we just have to Hang in there and Wait...... and Pray A LOT!!! Take Care angie

My son Evan also left on November 24 (one month to the day after his 21st birthday), he is also on the USS Theodore Rossevelt but his Division is 73. I have yet to receive a letter from him, only the form letter from the Navy with two lines from him. This has been a tough month. I think of him everyday wondering how he is. At this point I am wondering when their graduation will be. Do any of you know?

I thought I had an idea how tough this would be for me but I was in no way prepared. I am so proud of him for this decision and so excited for the opportunities it will bring him but I miss him terribly. I know I am not saying anything that all moms feel. The day I came home to find his box on the front porch was really tough! I talked to him briefly on the 5th of December because he didn't have his bank account information. That was tough because it was too early for him to be calling. Very homesick, only into his second week so still probably getting used to wearing clothes that actually fit in addition to all the other changes!

I also would be interested in knowing what the Div. #s mean.

HI Tiya,

Welcome. The graduation date is Jan 23rd.

http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/family/upcominggrad.html

There is a link under groups for PIR for this date, you can join the group and also find other people with someone in your sons Division.

In my sons last letter he was really homesick, it was just after the P-Week, I know that feeling homesick passes with time. Its just hard knowing that you can not help them get through it other than sending letters and positive thoughts their way. I write Tyler everyday. It helps me too..

I got a letter from my husband! He said things were going well - that he's now 'ship staff' (I'm not quite sure what that means so I did a search here on NFM and it sounds like it's a good thing). I just hope we get our phone calls today - it sounds like div 76 and div 70 are starting to get them.
