Navy For Moms

My daughter Megan left for BC yesterday. Just called the recruiter today. She's Ship 06, Division 911 - USS Constitution. Any one else out there with a recruit in the same division?

I'm a little confused. When I talked to her recruiter, he said she was in Division 911 - USS Constitution. How many divisions are there on one ship? Her recruiter also said the her division was a good one, but I'm not sure what he meant? I'm so new. Other than our kids being in them ;), why are 900 divisions considered good?

the 900 divisions are the preforming divisions.
they play & sing and do flag work at the other PIRs.

If you check out the 'boot camp' forum, you'll probably find quite a few Mom's with children in the same division. or at least those PIRing the same time.
When my son was going through BC last spring I practically lived on that forum. Everyone was going through the same thought, feelings and 'unknown' that I was. It was very supportive.

Good luck to your daughter! & write, write, write!

Hi Jackie,

My son, Jesse, left for bootcamp on Monday (12/1) and I just got his address a few minutes ago. He is on Ship 06, Division 911, too! We already miss him tons, but it's comforting to know of at least one other mom whose recruit is in his division. Please feel free to write me -- I know you and I are probably going through some of the same emotional turmoil. It's tough to see them go, but even tougher not knowing when we will hear from them. Hang in there, and let me know if I can be of any help to you!

Hugs,
Maggie

I was so surprised when I was able to get Megan's addr today.I've been reading about 900 division on this site and I'm kinda of surprised. Megan doesn't play an instrument, doesn' sing and has never said anything about drill or rifle team. From what I've gathered, the 900 divisions are performance divisions. Does Jesse perform? I read somewhere that if they express an interest in color guard or drill team they are put in the 900's. I've also read that if they are on color guard, etc, they may perform at the PIR. I feel so bad that I won't be able to go to the PIR (I'm in Utah and can't afford to travel to it). I'll feel even worse if she gets to do something in PIR and I'm not there to see it :(
Thanks for the encouragement. I hope I can return the favor for you someday :) I've sent you a friend's request so we can keep each other updated on our recruits.
It was so hard to leave Megan. We went to her swearing in ceremony yesterday. It was the first time I've seen Megan stand at attention. I could see the Sailor she'll be someday just looking at her. Of course I was so nervous that morning I forgot my camera, but took lots of pics w/my phone.
Hugs right back,
Jackie
