My son is in basic training in Great Lakes. He called me yesterday and told me he switched shifts he gave me the ship named I was able to find out the ship number through the website. However he did not give me a new division number so I've been sending letters leaving that blank. Do you think his division number changed since his ship changed and if not will he still get my letters even though I don't have a new division number.

Switched ships not shifts sorry typo
I’m sorry I don’t have an answe but a question. What website are you finding the information on for the ship? I’m looking to see if my recruit is allowed 3 or 4 guests for graduation but don’t know where to look.

look at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.html.  this is the home page of RTC.  At fhe top is states which TG can only have 3 guests....all others unless specified on this page are allowed 4 guests..hope this helps

shellyh, your son will be in a TG that only has 3 guests. Discuss that with him now before he leaves so there are no surprises.

Kd, What is your Recruits PIR date?  Currently the only PIR date confirmed, on the RT website with only three guests allowed is January 18th, but good info tells us that the next two, January 25th, and February 1st PIR dates, will also be only allow three guests.

All of you please be sure to join your PIR group. If it is not listed yet, hang tight they will be coming soon.

You do need the division number to send mail, through whatever means. The letters that you have sent may end up in the "research division" pile, and there is a lot of mail that reaches that pile. If by chance when sorted by ship someone knows your recruit, it may get to him. It will be hit and miss with no division number.
