My son is on the USS Mahan based at Norfolk, VA he was flown our 1 day after going to his base the beginning of Nov. from A school. My question is what can I send him. His birthday is right before Christmas and I am having a hard time thinking of something to send him for his birthday. I bought him a new x box game he wants for Christmas and i bought all his favorite snacks and gum. But I want to get him something to open on his birthday, anyone have any good ideas. I would appreciate any ideas you have, i am new at this shipping presents. Thanks.

If you are sending stuff to a ship, use the APO/FPO flat rate boxes provided by the post office.

Are you going to mail the X-Box to the ship at sea? I'd be very, very cautious doing so. Mail is delivered to the ships across the water ... sometimes the mailbag gets dropped into the sea and lost. I don't think you can insure packages to ships because there's no way for them to be signed for.

Maybe a nice watch? A small blanket for his rack? Maybe his favorite movies on DVD?

I read that if you wrap packages TOTALLY in packing tape, they will survive if dunked and fished out - it happens.

My son is on the USS Rushmore stationed in San Diego. They just left for a 7 to 8 month run. I miss not talking to him. Anyone else have a sailor on this ship???
