Navy For Moms

Hello all and good morning.
My daughter leaves for boot camp in January and I have seen 4 lists on what she needs to bring with her and all the lists are different. Can someone who has a daughter that recently been through boot camp let me know what she needs to take with her. Happy thanksgiving to all :-)

Thanks for the info. so what about bras and underwear, do they supply. on the several lists I have read it said that they were to bring white cotton briefs and 2 white cotton bras????
Yes, all the books say they can bring all those things, but I bet most of them will be sent back home. In my experience I would say a small amount of feminine sanitary items (if needed for the first week she will be at boot), stamps, small address book, calling card, small amount of cash and just the clothes on her back. They will purchase everything else they need (including stationery) during the first two weeks of boot. Make up can be sent to her before graduation, if her RDC approves it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!!
There are 3 or 4 different lists floating around the Navy sites, but from everything I've read from parents, pretty much everything comes back in the box except.....a wallet, address book, and a small bible. And remember, the more stuff they have to send home, the more it will cost them to send it.
Cindy, my daughter graduated 9/26. I will email her and ask her and let you know.
Thanks Dawn I appreciate it. I cant wait to see my girl in her uniform. Your sailor is beautiful. Hope you have a wonderful holiday
Hello!! I hope this helps. My daughter went to bootcamp Oct. 7. Before she left, we went to jc pennys and bought her 3 solid white bras, 2 of which were sports bras, 4 pr of solid white boycut underware, and solid white socks. She had already purchased a solid black one piece swimsuit. I thought we did great. A few days after she left for bootcamp, I recieved back her clothes she had worn there-along with everything we bought. She didnt keep any of the bras or underware or swim suit with her. The only thing she packed to take were her cell phone-which she mailed back also, her address book, and $25.00 cash. She didn't even take any toiletries. The navy has you purchase those kind of things there. She's doing great and is graduating Dec. 5. I can't wait. My advice is the less she takes the better. Believe me, the navy makes sure she has exactly what she will need and nothing extra is allowed. please request me as your friend and I will try to answer any questions you have, and I will be glad to share my daughters letters from bootcamp with you. Linda
Well I got her the address book this last weekend to start putting info from her cell in there... sounds like I am done :-)
I would tell the girls it is basically like going on the show 'Survivor'!
Thats funny Vicki!!
All I can tell you, is EVERYTHING we hurried out to buy that the recruiters said she'd need, came home in the box! I ended up with several bras, a swimsuit and even underpanties...they want all of them dressed exactly the same. Don't buy into anything, just send her with the clothes on her back. The one thing she did get to keep was a "Navy Bible" that I got for her at a Christian bookstore. Everything else came back home...Wish her well, God Bless, Cheryl
At least the underthings will come in handy after bootcamp!
Cindy; everything that my daughter brought with her, including her toothbrush was sent home. She couldn't keep bras, underwear or her contacts. I think if she wears eyeglasses she can keep them for after graduation & to wear for graduation day. She did keep the stamps, phone card and mailing labels. I hope that helps. My daughter just graduated boot camp in Novemeber
