A friend of mine, whose son is also going to Goose Creek asked this question:  Being a newbie, I have no idea::  My response was that he might not be able to get it all on the plane, regardless of how much room is available at Goose Creek.

My sailor is fixing to graduate boot camp and then head to goose creek. He has sent me a list of stuff he wants me to bring to give to him at the airport. Like his gym bag and all his lifting equipment, all his workout clothes, 10 pairs underwear, sock, then shaker bottles, protein powder, laptop/charger, phone/charger. And then best of all, he wants us to bring his PS4 and ALL of the games. I am thinking he should wait and see how much storage space he has. He is insistent that i bring it. Can someone tell me how much space the new nuke sailors get when they arrive at GC? I don't want him showing up with more stuff than he can deal with. And i really dont want to have to transport all this stuff on an airplane to chicago. Dont the sailors have enough stuff to carry when they go?
Do they have access to a gym and time to go work out? He has lost (as of the last time he told me - 25 lbs of muscle) and wants to put it back on. I would appreciate any advice. does anyone have any pictures of what the barracks are going to look like? or will it more of a "dorm" situation?? Thanks in advance! sorry this is so long!

I'd suggest that you join the Nuke Moms group and ask there.

Nuke school has a reputation for being extremely tough. Where is he going to find time for the gym and all those video games, even if  he can find a way to carry it all?  Good luck.

Thanks.... I cannot until after 0721 (his PIR)  Although it does seem that my answer to her was pretty dead-on :-)

He can have all those but I wouldn't suggest sending it with him at the airport.  He'll have plenty of other items to carry and there just won't be room.  Many do end up with their gaming systems as it gives them something to do in their downtime (all studying is done in the Rickover).  My son spent all his extra time working out - he wasn't a gamer.  I see you joined our nuke moms group too - come on over there and post your question and you'll get lots of responses!

Bring his phone and maybe the laptop. Maybe a few pairs of underwear.Everything else can be sent later. Unaccompanied housing BEQ) at GC is like a dorm. Everything has to fit in a small room and be neat and secured.
I don't know what lifting equipment involves, but that sounds doubtful. I am sure they have access to a gym.

My advice is that your sailor needs to focus on A school and will have limited time for PS4 and lifting.

He won't even be able to wear non-Navy issue clothing until he gets several weeks under his belt and his class is making successful progress.

I

They say not to send any electronics that distract them from their studies for a couple months: like Xbox or PlayStation
They have mandatory study time, if their grades not up to par, they take away their 'toys' and give xtra mandatory study! I'm gonna wait and send his PS4 back w/him at Christmas
