graduation

I am sure there is someone out there that has gone to boot camp graduation. How difficult is it to get to the base? Do you fly into Chicago O'Hare or Midway and how far is the base from the airport? I would appreciate any info that could be passed on.

Hi Mary Jo,
My son's PIR was in October. You can fly into either airport. We flew into O'Hare which was about an hour from the base. We then rented a car. We stayed at The Navy Lodge which is very close to the base.
We got to the base around 6AM on PIR day.
It will be a day you will never forget!

Hi Mary Jo,
My son's PIR was 4/24 we flew into O'Hare rented a car and stayed in Lincolnshire at Homewood Suites the room had 2 bedrooms, living room, and kitchen and it's was about 15 minutes from the base. Make sure when you make reservations you mention that you are there for the graduation and you will get a discount. We arrived at the base around 6:00 a.m. and front row seats. Hope you have a wonderful time the graduation is something that you won't ever forget. If need anything else just ask and I'll help you as much as I can.

Same pir was last Oct, Homewood suites (they cater to navy families) rented a car through Thrifty (pd $25 a night for a full size car for 1 week) Great time, you will LOVE it!!! Most of the Hotels have directions, the Homewood Suite has an entire package for PIR parents of what to do & where to go, very very helpful.
