Navy For Moms

Does anyone else have a child graduating 4/18? We've bought plane tickets, reserved a car and hotel rooms. We fly out late Thursday night (11pm flight) which will land us in Chicago around 5am. Just in time to freshen up at the airport and drive to the graduation!

Emilie is Ship 9 Div. 154

Thank goodness. I thought my son was graduating alone. Jonathan is Div 159, Ship 13. He's pre-Seal. Anyone else with a son/daughter in same Div? Can't wait for 4/18. I think he will be staying at GL for more pre-Seal training but don't know for sure.

I was beginning to think 4/18 was a mythical grad date as I hadn't yet found any other families that had children graduating that day!

Will you be in GL for graduation?

I am driving to GL from Baltimore, Md. leaving in the wee hours of Thursday morning, should arrive at GL about 2 or 3 pm. I'm booked at the Red Carpet Inn, about a mile from the main gate. They have a shuttle to the PIR ceremony--I hope they let the new Sailors ride back with us. If not, we'll walk. Where are you coming from? Do you know where your daughter is going after graduation?

We are coming from California. Flying in late Thursday night, landing 5am(ish) Friday morning. We are staying at the Homewood Suites ($88/night AAA rate) and renting a car at O'hare for $18/day (AAA rate)

Emilie said her division is on hold for 3-5 days before moving across the street to the main GL base. Part of her training is in Pensacola, FL but she is not sure when she leaves for that. Maybe 8 weeks after PIR her recruiter thinks.

Wow, you have great price for hotel and car. How about airfares? My son's PIR is on 3/27 there will be 6 of us heading there and we'd love to save as much as we can.

Elena - warning this discussion is a year old! It was our PIR 4.18.2008 so the fares are almost a year old.

You will enjoy the Homewood Suites, I have not been there, but my sister was there last year for my nephew's graduation, she said it was a nice place.
I am staying there 05/08 for my sons PIR.

Good Luck.

Our new sailor rode back with us. It is a common practice.

We purchased non-refundable and are really hoping that graduation will stay on 4/18. She has passed the physical and academic tests so far, so unless she really blows it over the next couple weeks (her words!) she will definitely graduate on time.

Non refundable from CA - $260/ticket
Refundable from CA - $650/ticket

You know what tickets for Louisiana are higher than tickets from California lol
