Navy For Moms

Hi Navy moms and families! My stepson graduates on 1-2-09 - we're so proud! Question - Are there any graduation "traditions" or items that we can bring to him? His mother shared the lighting of the Blue Candle with us for Christmas and it was so wonderful!

I wish I had decorated the door and room of the hotel for my new Sailor!!
Don't know about a tradition - but I liked the idea!!

about the only thing that he can take back with him is a black watch and many sailors get that either for themselves (as my son did) or as a gift.

In the forums under PIR for graduation there is a title graduation care package and I think it is on page 2 of the comments. It is something really cool you can order for the grads and it is presented to them for graduation. Scott's grandparents are doing this for him since they can not attend his PIR.

We got our son a mariners cross. He was able to put it on the chain with is dog tags and 10 months later, it is still on there. We found it at our local jeweler and was a little over $100. I have seen them at Walmart as well, not sure of the quality though.

Well, we stayed in Waukegan which is a suburb od chicago, if your flying in at midway make sure you get a suburb taxi not a city taxi or you will get ripped like we did. When you get tothe drill hall you want to sit about 4 rows up from the floor of the bleachers. I know its gonna be cold but if you have too many layers of clothes on you will burn up they keep it pretty warm in there....if you think all this waiting for graduation killed you, wait till you get to the drill hall that was torture.
