Navy For Moms

One, very under-discussed topic regarding life after RTC, is that soon after your daughter gets to school, she might be craving some basic bling. They, however, are extremely busy and initially do not have alot of time to go shopping, if at all. Mom to the rescue!

During Boot Camp, our daughters were provided with uniform-issue undergarments, commonly referred to as functional, durable and comfortable. The girls however, call them their "granny panties" or "bloomers". That SHOULD give you a visual idea on how fashionable they are. Another standard issue item the girls seem abhorred by are the eyeglasses which I've heard referred to as "birth control gear."

The first thing you can do, is contact her eyecare physician and request a copy of her current contact lens/eyeglass prescription. Secondly, if you did your daughter's laundry or shopping before Boot Camp, this should be easy. If not, simply ask! Another idea is to just surprise her. Why not tie it up in a little ribbon before boxing it up to make it feel even more feminine? Though it may not seem like an extravagant gift--we've all heard the "Santa brought me underwear... Again." stories--its just one more little comfort of home to make them feel a little bit more in control, and a little less homesick.

Oh, and one more tip:
If you happen to shop for them while she's still in Boot Camp, consider ahead of time that she may lose some weight/size during training, so a smaller size to choose from would be handy.
