When we were eating at Joe's Crab Shack in Gurnee on Sat. night after PIR a lady came up to our table and shook our son's hand and thanked him for his service. Then she went around to all the sailors(I saw 6 others) in there and thanked them. I just sat there with tears running down my face and my heart bursting with pride. I have always thanked military people but now when it is my baby boy that is being thanked it has a whole new meaning.

We had a put up a banner out front of our business that welcomed Home our US Navy Sailor son Joshua, while he was home on leave, for Christmas 2008, after his PIR. Shorty after he returned to GL in January of 2009, an anonymous patriotic card was left in our mailbox. The sender thanked my son for his service to this great country, and mentioned the welcome home banner we had placed out front . It was just their way of expressing their gratitude for his service. I thought that was so ....nice...just honest to goodness, appreciation and thankfulness. No return address was written on the envelope, it just mentioned a grateful neighbor. I sent it to my son and he has it still. He was very touched by such a simple act of kindness, as were we.

I've had multiple people tell me to tell my sons thanks for serving. When they're in uniform, everywhere we go, people come up and thank them. It's very heartwarming for this mom who misses her sons all the time!

My sailor has been in for 3 years. He is over there right now.I work for a elementary school. For Christmas the teachers had all the students make him and his unit christmas cards. That was the best thank you to him ever. Also when ever I wear my navy Mom shirt and my hubby wears his hat people shake our hands and say tell your son thank you.
He had a 1 hour layover 2 years ago and we met him at the airport. As I was leaving with tears running down my face I saw troops every where.I hugged a few and told them thank you.1 troop was waiting outside for his ride and he saw my hubbys hat and he shook my husbands hand asked us if we had a son or daughter serving and hugged me and said he will be ok Mom hes a soldier.

WOW~ I think that we all have alot to share with one another .... thanks for the stories... Keep them coming~!
On my older daughters first deployment as well as a dear friend that is known as Pa'pa to our youngest was deploying, my little one was upset... so I went out and got some big poster paper and Yello ribbon. I took all of the markers out and we put a sign outside on our fence that surrounded our property. We lived 6 houses off the beach and it was a main strip for ppl to drive to the beach or go surfing. We wrote.... "COME HOME SAFELY SISSY AND PA'PA!!! LOVE MOMMY AND NANI".

One day I opened my back door and there were flowers with a note and a business card. I STILL have it... It reads... "I am so touched by the little scribbles of a young child sending out her love and wishes for those she loves... Please take these and give them to her... and PLEASE remember to thank them when they come home safe"! I called that person and was invited to the Veterans Flad day ceremony. My mother who was visiting us went too. My little one was so excited that someone saw her sign and big yellow ribbon tied on the sequoia tree next to the fence... it truly put a smile on her face and helped her to be proud and not sad.

To this day it still warms my heart to hear stories of others that are full of true gratitude and supportive love!
Thanks guys and pls keep the stories coming! Spread the word! WE WANT TO HEAR MORE!

Thank you....

There have been so many little things said during my son's deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. I was at the airport with my Dad who was wearing a battalion hat that my son gave him before he left for Iraq. A young man came rapidly walking across the concourse and took my Dad's hand in his and asked him who was in that battalion. My Dad replied " My grandson." The man identified himself as a former member of the same Batt and thanked my father for his grandson's service. Stuff like this happened all the time. People stop me whenever I wear Navy stuff and thank me for my son's service. He was treated to lunch at an airport by a random man, forgiven a speeding ticket by a State Trooper in PA., and bumped to 1st class on a flight. Since coming back he has been welcomed home by strangers at the mall and the supermarket. He feels great!

My son just graduated from bootcamp 1 week ago (Friday, 3.27.09 to be exact) and we were on our way out of Walmart when a Walmart Associate (an elderly lady) shook my son's hand, congratulated him and thanked him for serving our country. Naturally my son blushed and replied but I've not yet served; she responded with "yes you have, you CHOSE to serve this country." The pride I felt that day was none like I've ever felt. Family, friends and strangers have put their differences and opinions aside to show their support for my son.

My son left 3 1/2 long weeks ago. We left him after the swearing in and that was hard. We still had things we had to do that night and I went anyway with my tears still coming and red eyes. We were at a class that I teach at Church and people were asking me about my son. One lady said will you please tell him Thank You for what he is doing. And more tears came but they were also tears of pride cuz I thought that was a really neat way to look at his leaving. God Bless All our Heroes!

Good morning Rena,
My sister and I were recently in Las Vegas and it was a bit chilly one morning so I put on my new Navyformoms.com hoodie. Since it is white with large black letters on the front and "Proud Navy Mom" on the back, my sister told me I looked like a walking billboard..lol. More than 50 people, we lost actual count, stopped me to tell me they were supportive of our kids in the military and they understood my pride and why I should wear this hoodie. I was overwhelmed with stories of "when they were in the Navy, etc" and I do believe I was a litte sore the next day after all the hugs I received . They also shared they had kids in the Army, Marines and some in the Navy. I have been very proud of my children, but I believe if I had buttons on that sweatshirt I would have popped them off with pride!
