OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Keep this letter in a safe place and/or scan and save on your hard disk as a backup. The FORM LETTER contains four important items.

  1. Your recruit's SHIP # and DIVISION # (Ships which are their barracks are also named, such as USS Triton, USS Reuben James. Don't confuse these with the real life actual Navy vessels in service)
Just below that is his address.
  2. Further down, you'll find his graduation date. This is his PIR (Pass In Review) date.
  3. Next, you'll see the password needed to download the parking pass

GOING TO PIR (GRADUATION).

You will have many questions regarding PIR. Where to stay? When to get airline tickets? What to do around Great Lakes? How to order photos, dvds? You'll benefit from the information from others who have made this journey. There will be very few experiences like this in life - enjoy it. Be proud of your recruit.

typically 9 weeks, however due to memorial day weekend my daughter ended up being 8 weeks.  Wait for your letter about 3 weeks after he goes in for a definite date.  However, my daughter told me about a week after my letter arrived that her date was moved up.
BunkerQB, we have a group as well PIR7/8/11 TG34-10 Divisions (219-226, 815 & 934) please add us up. Thanks much!

I know there are a number of small group for specific ship/division within a PIR date group. I think it would be easier to have them as "discussions" under the main PIR group. Of course, it's a free country. Do what you feel comfortable. Regardless, good luck to all recruits and a warm welcome to all parents, wives, fiancees, gfs. Besure to look at the info contained within this discussion.

Navy For Moms Survival Guide.

hi, I believe my granddaughter's PIR is July 22 also. I recieved her box yesterday. I haven't recieved the letter. She arrived at bootcamp on May 25th. I recieved the call, that she had made it and she would call again, in three weeks.

scroll up, click on PIR 07/22/2011 - join the group. Look at info on survival guide. Good luck.
Why isn't ship 11, Division 204 listed for PIR June 17th?

I can't remember why I did that either. I should probably take out the "ship" si?

OK. DONE! YOU GUYS ARE SOOOO GOOD. :)

Thanks so much for clearing that up.  I was really confused by the "ship" (or lack there-of).  I thought it was just me......=/

I am writing this to let everyone know about my experience with the Quality Inn in Waukegan Illinois at 619 S Greenbay Road in Waukegan and the manager "Nicholas".  On May 26 I called to make a reservation for two rooms and was given a confirmation number.  Within an hour or so I called back and spoke to Nicholas and explained to him that I needed to cancel that reservation.  He said okay and that he had cancelled the rooms and that was all I needed to do.  I asked if I needed anything else and he said no that he had taken care of it.  My reservation would have been for June 16 through June 20.  I received my credit card bill and discovered that he charged my credit card on June 17 for $59.00 and a charge of $69.00.  I called and explained to him that I had cancelled and he asked for a cancellation number.  I explained to him I did not have one as he did not give me one.  He said without proof he would not withdraw the charge.  I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said that he did not have one that he was the "owner" and that he does not answer to anyone.  So please be very careful before making a reservation with this hotel or if you cancel your reservation make sure you get a cancellation number.  Better yet let's put the word out that he is doing this.  I wonder how many other Navy families he is doing this to or has done it to?????

Blueyes, please post this in the PIR Reference Information Group also. They are making a mistake in treating our Navy families that way. I normally fax something to a hotel or motel if they tell me a confirmation number is not needed.

You might also post something under "blog" on the above menu bar. Feel free to start a new discussion under the Forums, Pass In Review category - maybe with something like.

PIR HOTEL FEEDBACK: QUALITY INN IN WAUKEGAN, IL. WILL CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD AFTER CANCELLATION OF RESERVATION.

There is a second group for the August 26 PIR and the other group formerly known as PIR 8/26/2011 now seems to be for just Divison 270, DIV 270 (PIR 8/26/2011),The other group is PIR 8/26/11.  They were formed the same day and both have over 20 members.  You probably need to adjust the link above.

Hi, thanks. I'll do that tomorrow. I was letting them resolve which group was going to be the the overall PIR.
