We did get a form letter from him yesterday giving us all of the information about what he has to expect for the next few weeks and how to get a hold of the American Red Cross or Public Affairs if needed. The last line was where he could write comments, his were, "Everything is going well, this is going to be fun. I will write soon". At least he sounds positive:) Here is a website that gives the PIR dates:

Cathie,
Our son PIR on 11/21/08 his comments on his form letter were very similar, he did great and is now in Pensacola sunning him self till A-school starts. Do not get to upset if you do not get phone calls, we received one phone call the entire 8 weeks he was there, it really depends on the RDC is what my son told me that was really hard on me the not knowing but let me tell you once PIR comes and you are able to spend that weekend with him it is all good, the minute he had an address in pensacola we over nighted his cell phone we talk everyday now it's great, and he is having the time of his life.

My Son Joshua leaves next Wednesday. I'm already crying and he hasn't even left. I still can't believe he is a young man, seems like yesterday I was holding him for the first time.

Are there any that are leaving or already left from Jacksonville, Florida?

My son is in Jax, Fla today - he got there yesterday and is flying out to GL this AM-I feel the same way, this is so hard.. I have not stopped crying= even though I know this is going to be great for him and he is going to love it..

Joshua should be getting ready to take off any minute. It is so hard. I wanted to be there for his swearing in and to go to the airport to watch him leave, but of course he didn't want us to. I made my son close Joshua's bedroom door because I know if I go back there and the door is open I'm going to lose it. He just wanted us to drop him off at the Recruiters office and say goodbye there. Of course my heart broke, I wanted to see him sworn in and to be at the airport when he took off, but he wanted to do it his way and of course I have to honor his wishes. He knew they would have to pull me off his legs when he went to board the plane, lol. I'm so proud of him but it is so hard letting them go. My youngest is 15, this is so hard. How do you just let go? HOW? This will be his first Christmas away from home, my heart is broken in half.

I LOVE YOU JOSHUA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello...my son is almost finishing his third week at BC and I received a 3min call, 2 letters and the formal letter. The first letter sounded upbeat, but the second one said he was sick and miserable, got his shots. Breaks my heart. He graduates on 1/30/09. He's in Ship 13 Div 84. I clean up his room little at a time because I think I'm looking for some connection, silly of me. But I can't bring myself to throw out any of his stuff. I ask the same question myself of how to let go. I keep myself busy but I can't do it 24 hours. He is the last of my 3 boys, so he's the baby. It is like I'm obsessed, I think of him all the time. I thinks it's harder right now because ther is no communication. I hope when he gets to school it will be better.

Hi Brian,
My son left on 11/24 and we haven't received a phone call yet....It took over a week to get his clothes then
another week to get the form letter. We miss him terribly but know this is the best place for him. Xmas is
going to be tough, do you have any idea what they do in there, any break for the holiday?

I honestly don't know how the Navy dose X-MAS . I know in the Marines it is just another training day with a better dinner . I was in bootcamp for x-mas and the marines told me that USMC stood forYou suckers missed Christmas . LOL .. I think our boys will have it a little better then that . Some Divs are adopted out to churches for x-mas . I am not sure what that means .
