Hi Everyone, I received a call from my son this AM who is at bootcamp he started Jan.17th. He informed us that he was injured at training apparently fell carrying a dummy who fell on his head. He said he blanked out for a minute and had some amnesia. They transported him to the hospital where he stayed over night. They did do a CT scan of his head which showed head trauma. I don't know how a CT scan can show head trauma. Needless to say he his very heartbroken and so are we. He said he had a concussion and has a little headache. He was separated and is with 200 other injured trainees. In one week he meets with Legal and then they will decide whether he starts bootcamp from the beginning or they send him home after 3wks. My question is has anyone else experienced this with their son or daughter? If he comes home will he be able to re enter the Military again? He is so heartbroken and so are we this was his dream and we would hope this is not the end of his Military career. If anyone has any info on this we would greatly appreciate it . Thank you, Maryann

My heart goes out to you, Maryann!  What a terrible phone call to receive. I am not very familiar with military proceedings but I do actually work at a non-profit organization who serves brain injury survivors and have a child who had head trauma. My understanding is that it will depend on the extent of injury they found on the CT scan.  I would think they would re-scan after a few weeks to see if there is any change.  Then there should be a chance of getting a medical waiver.  If he does come home, I believe after a certain amount of time, a neurologist can clear him if scans are negative and he could resubmit with a waiver.  Again, I am unfamiliar with exact proceedings but I had to reach out to you and share what I have heard.

Will be thinking all good and healing thoughts for your son!

Thank you so much for the information and your concerns. All we can do is pray that this passes quickly and he feels 100% and able to return to bootcamp very soon. Thank you

All will work out! Prayers for you all.

Maryann,
How is your son doing? Did you learn more about the process?
