Just a thought: for those sailors who will not have loved ones in attendance...

For those who have a desire and means: I wrote to my daughter and told her that if there were any sailor graduating on the date that she will be graduating (11/20/09), who will not have any loved one in attendance- that if she appreciates the sailor...that she is free to invite them along with us where-ever we go.

I received a letter from her 2 days ago and not only does she have one but two sailors who will be joining us.
I don't think any graduating sailor should be alone on this day and having anticipated that this may be the case for some sailors, is the reason that I gave my daughter the option to invite another to come along with us.

I thought that I would post this, in case other's have a means and desire to do the same.

I'd just like to say that this is so very kind of you to invite along other sailors to your family gathering. We just returned from our son's graduation 2 weeks ago in Great Lakes and it is such a sensational ceremony. I told my son the same thing - that he could invite anyone he wanted to join us - but fortunately everyone was blessed with a family member in attendance.

I am one of those parents that couldn't go to his graduation. It was right after christmas.he graduated almost 4 years in Jan and financially we just couldn't go.I was so dissapointed. He was ok with it because he was a grad and go.But he got a few hours after wards and I'm so very great full for a family that did that for my son.So thank you for doing this I know the sailors and parents will appreciate it.

Kate,
This is a wonderful idea, my son graduates 12/4, and I am going to do the same thing!
Thanks for the great idea!

Just a note, Alot of the Sailors hook up at the Gurnee MAll. I know when my son PIR"d in Oct '06. We went to the mall, and there was alot of them there.some had family, alot didn't I also know when my hubby grad. Boot camp, he told me there was about 12 of them including him that went out to eat with his foster mom. But I think you have a kind heart to want to do this for your daughter;s friends. I hope you have a great time this weekend.

This is a great idea. I will tell my son too. It will be really great to share our happiness with someone whose family can't make it. Thanks. My son's PIR is 12/30

We had such a great time at PIR. We got to meet and spend some time with the young mane my son told us about. What a nice young man. Too bad for his family--they are the ones missing out.

Pray for me--now my youngest is talking Navy. I would be proud to have two sons in the Navy, but the youngest has to graduate HS first :)
