Navy For Moms

Hi, Lorraine here from Colorado, my son is Eric and he is a new recruit with an SF unit. He was recently hospitalized and I was wondering if anyone knows the procedures for finding out "from a doctor" what is going on. I think I am bound to follow the National HIPPA laws since he is 18. any of you had a recruit hospitalized? We have been getting daily updates from my son, but still would like to talk to a doc.

Seeking advice Lorraine

I have been a bit upset with the Navy when my son was injured in Iraq.. it wasnt so much lack of information but lack of what I saw realistic care..and lack of proper medical equipment to give a correct diagnosis.. He has a knee injury, was told first that it was herditary, I guess because they dont want to pay out on a service connection if he should have to leave the Navy which is BS since that is not a decision the Navy would make ( My husband works for the VA) .... then it upset me because we have been in Iraq for how many years and a CT or MRI are no where available to get the correct diagnosis for my son. I also worked in the medical field for years specifically in Radiology and I know there is compact MRI and CT available out there that they should have, and if there is one they dont seem willing to get him to it, I understand security issues and I can accept that if that is the case. I dont blame the Navy I blame our government but thats a different rant.. it appears there will FINALLY be an Ortho in next week and they will be looking at his knee.. at this moment my son can't walk and has been in this condition for 4 weeks, this is absolutely unacceptable to me.. He wants to do his job and can't and they arnt moving fast enough for this mom.. So next week we will find out what is going on and what is going to be done.. I know this is off topic to the GB issue, but justed wanted those to know that it doesnt get any better...

Our military deserve the best and I dont get why they are not getting it.. and reading what is going on with the illinesses coming out of GL just irritates me more

4 out of 43,000 isn't evidence anything is on the rise.

Since the national rate is 1-2 out of 100,000 it sure is evidence. If you google Guillain Barre with the word Navy you will find that it has been an issue since the 1970's.
