Navy For Moms

"This month, as we celebrate our blessings, and give thanks for our freedom to enjoy them, we take great pride in honoring November 21-28, 2008 as Military Family Appreciation Week.

"Families serve just as their uniformed service members do. And the military family has rarely faced as many challenges as our families do today. After seven years of war, hundreds of thousands of families have served through multiple deployments in support of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as many other locations throughout the globe.

"But the love and support of our military families do more than allow us to serve abroad. Our families serve at the very center of American society. They are the bedrock of a free republic which provides for a common defense – and their commitment to the values of hard work, self-sacrifice, and moral virtue is a source of great pride and inspiration for us all.

"And, in this service, some families have suffered great loss – the kind of heart-wrenching loss that echoes for generations. We as a Nation owe the families of the wounded, and the fallen, a lifetime of gratitude and respect for a debt which we can never fully repay.

"On behalf of my family and those of the Joint Chiefs, to all our military families, past and present, we thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your love. You truly are a wellspring of our Nation's honor, courage, and strength. With you by our side, we accomplish far more than we ever could alone."

Respectfully,

M.G. MULLEN
Admiral, U.S. Navy

This is my brother in law Gregory, He was 1 of 2 guys that recieved 2 purple hearts from Iraqi Freedom.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I have a son on the Stennis, and thank God that he and his daughter will be home for Christmas for the 1st time in 4 yrs..

We know what it is like to have family home from Iraq injured, and what it is like to go through all of the adjustments of getting back into the civilian life. It is very very hard when at one moment they are laughing and having a good time, to the next minute they are in a foul mood for what ever reason. You cannot say it's going to be ok and you know what they are going through, because we don't. We are really starting to see some of the pictures of what he went through over there and it is really hard to phathom. So I am very thankful that my brother in law is home safe from Iraq, But if it was up to him he would go back because he did not finish what he was sent over there to do. Thank you SW2 PO Risner, Gregory C. of the MNCB 14 SEABEES for your service in the US Military to defend or freedom.

To our son AN Johnson, Carl R. Thank you for all you do, at home and abroad. We are so very proud of you. We love you and miss you very much.

Thank you so very much. My oldest son has been in the Navy now for 2 1/2 years, and has not had to be deployed overseas yet. He was in Nuclear School and then was on a medical delay for several months. He currently serves on the Dallas in Groton, CT and will be moving to Portsmouth, NH in December. As a mother I'm thankful that he serves in a way that hasn't put him directly in harm's way. But also, so very aware of the mother's who children have had to serve in that way.

Thank you Sir. I am so proud my son is serving in the Navy alongside men of quality like you. He is a new Ensign in Virginia so his feet aren't wet yet, but this is one proud mom. He is taking care of our vets as a nurse. The Navy has been good to him for even this short amount of time he has been in. Thank you again for your words of encouragement. We moms are proud of our sons.
