Erin, its hard, I'm not going to lie. The next 8 weeks will be one of the toughest times you and his family will ever go through. All you can do is be there and support each other. Write lots of letters and take your phone with you every where! I used to forward my home phone to my cell so I wouldn't miss a call. Then at the end of 8 weeks you get to go to graduation and you will be so proud!! This is a great web site, please feel free to ask me anything or I'm here if you just want to vent. Be sure his mom signs up for this site too!! My sailors one year anniversary is this Wednesday. We are so proud of him!!

Hi Erin, like Dianne posted this will be the toughest times, but you will get through them..Why is his family flipping out? Because he's leaving? If it a carrer move they should be proud of him...I was once in your shoes many many years ago, now my husband left to bootcamp I wrote to him everyday, I still have all his letters from bootcamp mind you we have been married this year 20 years... His family was not happy he decided to join the Navy, I think it was the best thing that could have happened to both us..I married him right out of bootcamp moved to San Diego lived there for 4 years.. Now our son is in the Navy...I am not sure what kind of advise you are looking for but if you care about this fellow be there for him support him and write tons of letters...You can only hope his family will come around...
