Hi to all Navy Moms!  My son is leaving on 2/6/19 for boot camp and it is so hard ....Just so hard to let your child go at such a young age to a place your not familiar with and not able to talk to every night to make sure there okay.   I am a mother that is so proud of him and wanting to start a new life and to meet new people and see many places.  But it is still so hard to let go.  :(

NavyMom19, my daughter left on 1/8. It was terribly hard and still is. But the old cliche is true, it eases a bit with time. After the first 10 days or so, communication opens a little and you’ll get letters and an occasional phone call (only one call so far but 4 letters). I’m proud of my daughter and trying to focus on that while counting down the weeks. This forum is invaluable, so stay close and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

NavyMom19: I agree, it will get a bit better after you hear from him! At the third week, I received a call from my son for 30 minutes! It was amazing to hear his voice! After that call, I felt so much more at ease about how he was doing! I was able to pass on how he was doing to other family & friends! My son left 1-8 and is about halfway through! The hardest part is the lack of communication for us moms, but once communication has opened up, you’ll feel so happy! Feel free to ask any questions here, this group has tons of answers!

My son left today.. and i hear ya.. it has been rough
I know how you feel my Son left on Tuesday the 5th and I’ve cried every day since! But I got his box and letter about graduation today and that made me feel a little bit better today!

I'm so jealous.  My son also left on the 5th, and we've received his box, but no letter yet.  I have about 5 letters waiting to go out to him, but I don't have an address to send them to yet.  I feel bad for him waiting on mail that hasn't even been sent yet.  :(

It is not recommended to get the address from the recruiter as they can be moved around during the first couple of weeks while waiting for divisions to fill and the address can change.  It is best to wait for the official form letter so you know your mail will get there.  Start writing letters now and number them in the corner so your SR knows what order to open them in once you mail them.

Also, once you receive the official letter and have the PIR date be sure to join the group for that.

NavyMom19 - be sure to join the Boot Camp group - I left the link on your page in the Welcome letter.  You'll find lots of good info there.

Be sure to sign up for Informed Delivery with the USPS.  This way you can see what mail is coming to you each day:

NavyMom19, my son left on 2/06/19, top. I’ve gotten a couple of letters and two calls from him. He says he is doing ok. Hope your son is doing well, too. I assume our sons will be graduation on the same day? March 29th? Less than 3 weeks to go!  I can’t wait to see my son again!
