Navy For Moms

Hello,
I feel so blessed to have found NAVY for Moms and I am so thankful to have gathered so much information in such a short time from reading all of the information from other MOMs. I was wondering if anyone would please help me to get prepared for graduation. If you would please give me advice about anything from where to book motel reservations, where to stay, do I rent a car? How many tickets will we get for graduation? I would be so thankful for any information you have. I am just learning how to find information here, so please if you have any feedback, I would sure appreciate it. Thank you all so very much. My son will be going to great lakes. Thank you again and have a wonderful day.

PIR--ticket you get 4, rent a car--ur choice but sure makes it easier to get around and especialy now that is is COOOOOLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDD in Chicago. We stayed in a nice hotel, 2 bedroom suite was only $89 back when I was there. Find the group for your PIR, you might want to stay where others are so you wil be close for the meet & greet. Meet & Greet is the big get together the night before where you meet all the wonderful people you have been speaking too for months. Good Luck & CONGRATS on your rct.

My son is leaving for BC today. His recruiter told me that they would mail something to me in a couple of weeks that would have all the graduation information on it, included hotels in the area and I would imagine it will have a lot of answers to your questions. I know I myself am very anxious to get that information so I can make the necessary plans. But I will keep looking at the posts on here meanwhile and maybe get some info sooner. Good luck to you and your son, There are several Mom's on hear who sons are leaving or left this week. If you need someone to talk to you should just join in. I am.

My son leaves Thursday as well. He left today, but will spend the night at MEPS in Denver then ship out officially tomorrow.

Can't add anything to the "wait for the packet" sentiment, just wanted to let you know your son won't be alone out there, lol. If you need to chat, feel free to send me an email. =)

My son arrived at Great Lakes yesterday, Thurs. Nov. 5. He left from Lansing Michigan. I am not sure if he took a bus the whole way or flew into Chicago and a bus from there. He called a little before 5pm last evening, of course no one was home to receive the call. I had to run out to pick up youngest from hockey tryout. The answering machine took the call....but there was static on phone or my machine....I could not hear the whole message, but I am sure he just said that he made it there. I am sure it was the typical 30sec call that most are able to make upon arriving. There was a pay phone number on our caller id. I googled the number, it was from N. Chicago/Waukegan area so I'm fairly certain that he made it there.

My sons recruiter said for me to call him in about a week to get my sons address at Great Lakes as he will have it sooner than it will come to us. I am not sure if he will have an graduation information at that time, it may be a little too early. When we receive our kids ship and div. numbers, graduation dates, we can figure out where to stay. As we live in Michiga we will just drive there. I would think that you would want to rent a car, after graduation I assume most people go into Chicago for the day.

Well, I guess we are in it now. Good to have others to talk to, share information. Good Luck to all.

Hello,
My son got to BC Thurs. Nov. 4th also. The recruiter said the same to us. We will receive a form letter in about 2 weeks giving some info. There is a post, I think at the boot camp mom group, that has some really good specific info re: PIR. It's called PIR for dummies. That particular discussion helped a lot. If any of you moms would like to chat about BC please contact me. I didn't realize how nice it is to have others to talk to that are in the same boat. ha ha bad pun :) cjkmom
