Navy For Moms

My youngest son (now 21) was unsure of his future- what he wanted to do, whether/where to go to college. He kept drifting back to the idea of joining the Navy...
WHAT A GREAT CHOICE HE MADE!
He went to bootcamp in June 2007, went to "A" and "C" school in Dam Neck, VA. He is stationed in San Diego, CA- -which he absolutely LOVES- -went for a voluntary 6 month deployment to Iraq (just got back in March), was named Jr Sailor of the Quarter (4th Qtr 2008) and just received word yesterday he made E5! All in less than 2 years! He is very happy and I am so proud of him!

Super news about your son. Sounds like he might want to make a career of the Navy. And look how young he'd be after his 20 yrs in the service.
Like you, my son is stationed in San Diego, which was perfect for me while I was living in Arizona. I could take a one hour flight over there to visit him almost anytime. Not so anymore, as I moved to Wisconsin 3yrs ago, so I count on phone calls now.
When your sailor's ship offers the "tiger cruise", you should try to attend. It's a wonderful time to board the ship, see where they work and sometimes live, meet some of the shipmates, etc. They have a grill and picnic on deck, and show how they handle fire on board, or man-overboard situations. Bryan's ship even had a fly-over, which was totally breathtaking.
Thanks for the sailor story!! Good news is always welcome....

Wisconsin...we're almost neighbors!
Travis isn't on a ship- -never has been and has no desire to be! He is "land based". (And he deployed with Navy Seals when he went to Iraq, but is not a SEAL!) The "Tiger Cruise" sounds amazing, though! I hope to get out to San Diego some time in the next year. I have never been west of Iowa, so it will be an experience!
Please tell Bryan "Thanks!" for doing his part!
