Navy For Moms

I am a new Mom to the Navy. My son left on 11/10. I know that we get notified about 4 weeks out about the PIR date but is there anyway to guesstimate when the PIR might be if he started on 11/11? Also, is it true that there can only be 4 family/friends at PIR? Thanks for any help you can provide.

This is the link for graduation, watch for his division. There are ways to count but no way to know for sure how many weeks. Some are there as few as 7 or as long as 9..but you can get a range.

Unfortunately I do not even know which division he is in yet. Is that something he will tell me when he calls or will this be in something I get in the mail? Thanks!!

Hi Donna,
You can get his ship/division number either through his recruiter, or probably within the next few days you will receive a form letter in the mail with a few personal lines from your son and it will list his ship/division number. Get that pen out & write, write, write! Letters from home are the only contact with the outside world so they just love them!

MJ,
My sons recruiter is pretty much worthless, so I will await receipt of the form letter. I have been writing little notes each day since he left and am ready to mail them. I am even numbering the envelopes so he reads them in order. I never realized how hard it would be to have him gone. I received his clothing, phone, etc. in a box the other day and there were a bunch of papers in the box as well. They looked to be his signed orders and travel arrangements. Would any of the information I want be on that paperwork?

Our son also left 11/10. We contacted his recruiter and found out his address and division number. He is in Division 908 which is not yet posted. It looks like his dvision would be the next scheduled date of 1/9/09. We have yet to receive any mail or calls from him and were vey hopeful he would graudate by 1/2/09. But, It appears there are no PIRs scheduled between Christmas and New Years.

Hi Amy,
I spoke with my son's recruiter today and he is supposed to get me his division number and address tomorrow. If my son's PIR is on the 9th of January, that would work well for our family's schedule. Once I found out what division my son is in I'll let you know, maybe their together or know each other. Talk with you soon.

My fiance' left on the 11th, but got to Chicago on the 12th. His graduation date is January 9th!

Hi Amy,
I just got my first letter from my son and he, too, is in Division 908 and I believe that division is listed as PIR for 1/9/09.

I'm new to all this as well - my son also left on 11/10. He's in Div 052 & it appears his PIR is on Jan 2nd! We've been writing up a storm to him, but it's so hard because he won't be here for Thanksgiving, his birthday (12/8), Christmas or New Years! :-P But with his PIR on 1/2, his brother will still be in town from the AmeriCorps and his sister will still be on break from school, so the whole family will get to go!

I read someone mentioned only 4 can go to PIR -- is that correct?

Thanks to everyone for the information as well as uplifting thoughts/comments...being w/out my son has been hard - harder than I ever imagined - but God bless our sons and daughters that are serving our country! Our pain is mixed with pride and gratitude...

My son arrived at GL on 11/13, I got the letter today saying that his in DIV 059 so according to the website he should also PIR on 01/09. That only has him there 8 weeks and 1 day so I'm thinking he may get held back one week. so I'm not making plans until I get my grad packet in a few weeks. Good luck to everyone.
