Navy For Moms

My son left for boot camp Oct 29th so the road is a long one yet... Since I don't sleep at night now I have thought of every scenario there is....not hearing from him is the worst. I have had no experience with military life so I have many questions...what if he can't adjust? Does he get a dishonorable discharge? Can he call home around the holidays? I have written him to express encouragement as I do believe this is the best thing he has chosen to do but I wish I could hear his voice. Being a single mom for most of his life has made this separation difficult for me...and his sister..the three of us are very close. Also we hear only 4 can go to grad... true? I want him to suceed at this more than anything as I know he''ll never regret it..its just boot camp I am so worried about. Thanks for listening..I don't feel so alone in this now...

Hi Carli,
I rmember when my daughter left for boot camp almost 8 yrs ago. My cordless phone was connected to my hip, I didn't go anywhere around the house without it. Even to the clothes line to hang clothes. Phone calls depend on many things. They can cut one short at anytime. There's a large room with phone booths they use. Phone cards are welcome all the time.I remember my first one from my daughter(I'm a single Mom also). We both started to cry. It's great hearing from them. Yes they are limited, but it's a growing up process. Write letters all the time, mail call is a great time. They will be fine. Some say boot camp is the toughest. They change is amazing. If you can make it to graduation go. My daughter even had someone tell her she wouldn't make it. She showed up at that persons door after graduation in uniform!
They learn to make new friends and work as a team. I'm sure your son will be fine.

Hi Carli, My daughter left for BC on 10/29 to. I just got my 1st phone call last night, she says its very hard but there was some things she laughed about. I have missed her so much and I keep my phone with me at all times. She told me the most imporant thing is the letters she gets she said they keep her going. I write her every day and posted her address on my space for her friends and so she is getting plenty of mail Hopefuly your son will be home for christmas. My daughter gets to come home for 4 days then off to Miss. for A school but at least there she will be able to have her cell phone and I will be able to talk with her. I to am a single mom and it is very hard being away from her but I have to let her know how proud I am and give her as much positive reinforcement as I can.

Hi Marianne,

My son also left for Boot Camp on October 29th and is in Div. 038, Ship 11. Did you son get the flu? My son was very sick (may still be). I noticed that he calls home on Saturday mornings. Is your son graduating on Dec. 24th also?

Hi Carli,

My daughter left the day before your son so they should be finishing up around the same time I'm guessing. I have received two letters and one phone call from my daughter so far. I have sent her several letters and others in my family and other friends are writing her too. I know she enjoys getting those letters. Our phone conversation was wonderful. She sounded great and up beat. I know she is trying really hard. It sounds like the "Chief" is tough on all of them but yet she is helping them to succeed. I just wonder how the weather is. Since we are from Louisiana, we are not really use to a lot of cold weather. Best wishes.

Lynda
