Navy For Moms

My daughter is joined the Navy. She just took her Asveb test and signed up for an extra year. She will be going for Pharmacy. Her recruiter was supose to come by about two weeks ago to explain the position job she would have and all the paper work. He has canceled in the past two weeks and I am getting really upset. Before she took her test he would ave done flips. Now that the papers are signed he won't even the family the right time of day. I really didn't expect this from him. She is supose to start boot camp july 7th. But I'm really not shore??? I don't even know where she will be going or even what school she will be attending. My question is do I have the right to ask him, I was very proud when my daughter Stacey ask me to call and find out the information about the navy. This is something she decided to do on her own. I'm just worried about all of this. I want to support my daughter in everywhich way I can but without the proper information I feel lost and left out. As a matter of fact she is the one who told me about this web site. I'm not even sure I am even using this website properly.

Ok, here's what I found on that job... http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/navynec/blhm8482.htm
How old is your daughter? If she is 18 or older they don't need parental permission for anything. Sounds like your daughter's recruiter is not a very good one. Personally I would go over to the recruiters office and see what is up. They are your liaison and are supposed to be helpful.
My daughter is 17 but will be 18 on the 17th of this month. I will look at the link you sent me. She is going to go to school for pharmacy but they gave her some other job which I have no idea what the discription is. My husband will be taking Stacey to the recruiting station this thursday it is her 1st meeting. after she enrolled. I think I will join her there to talk to them. I'm tired of playing phone tag. Thank you for the link again
Do ask them specifically what NEC she will be training for, it will have a number. if it is not HM-8482 Pharmacy Technician, then she has something else. The HM stands for medical corpsman, which could still be a pharmacy tech. The NEC is the specific or specialized job.

I hope this helps:

Thank you this will help
Dianne thank you for the link I just viewed it. Yes that is what Stacey will be going to school for but the job they gave her has nothing to do with it. I will find out on Thursday.
Michele, be sure to let us know what happens!!! Hang in there mom!!
The recruiter came over Monday night and explained everything to me. Right now looks like she will be leaving in july for basic training and then her job will be in adminstration. There is not an opening in the core until october for pharmacy tech at this time but once a seat or spot opens she can transfer. She will be going to school in meridian ,ms. As of right now. Thank you for your concern I appreaciate every thing that everyone has told me .
Tell your daughter Thank You for wanting to serve.
Since she wants the medical field she'll be attending "A"school which is after boot camp in Great Lakes. Actually its right across the tracks from boot camp. Sorry you are having a hard time with the recruiter. My son had 2 wonderful recruiters that did everything they could for the both of us.
Thank you for letting me know this information but I don't even know where she is going to go to boot camp at. And what is "A" school. The only Great Lakes I know of is Ohio. It seems like this recruiter would have done flips for us but after she took her test and signed up for the extra year this recruiter didn't want to have anything to do with us as parents granted she is only 17 and I am very proud of her for making this big decision about her furture. But I would feel more at ease if I knew a little more about what was going on. If you know what I mean
that's too bad, my daughter's recruiter was the best
Wish I had a good one maybe I wouldn't be so misinformed
Michele, your daughter will be going to boot camp in Great Lakes, IL, that is were every Naval recruit goes to boot camp. A school is where they go after boot camp to do their schooling, as far as where your daughter will be going to that I don't know, but there are many moms on this site who can fill you in. I understand your feelings about her recruiter, my son signed up in Hawaii while he spent his senior year with his father and that recruiter was great, he gave me all kinds of info, when my son came back home to St. Petersburg, Florida, I could never get his recruiter in Florida on the phone and when I finally did he pretty much told me to cut the umbilical cord. I would stop playing phone tag with him and start playing face to face, he has to answer your questions if you are right in his face. Don't lose hope you will get your answers. Prepare a list of questions for your daughter to ask the recruiter and have her write the answers down for you. Don't let this recruiter intimidate you, this is your daughter and you have a right to know what is going on.
