Navy For Moms

So my husband is graduating corpsman A school Nov 20th in Great Lakes. He has to report to camp pendleton, CA for FMF? training with the marines by Dec 2nd and he is set to finish that training by March 23rd and his permanent duty station will be San Diego, CA. Currently, me and our daughters are in Orlando FL. We have no idea how we are supposed to get the navy to move our stuff there is no way we can do a DIY move, too much with a 3yr old and 1yr old. So we were hoping to have the Navy move our stuff. However everyone he keeps talking to in GL keeps giving him disconnected phone#'s, websites to moving sites like Smartmove.com that dont move in our area! I'm starting to panic now because time is def running out and I just left my job under the assumption since they told him "it wouldnt be a problem to move his family". Also they told him he would receive his sign on bonus and BAH for his new housing immediately after completing A-school. Now, they are telling him sign on bonus wont come till after training with the Marines which wouldnt be until MARCH! And the same For his BAH that it wouldnt be received until his actual permanent duty station in San Diego! I am at such a loss because my hands are tied being im here in orlando but we are truely getting the run around!

Why wasn't he getting BAH in A school? I believe he should have and he needs to check into this further asap. They are correct about the bonus, though.

You should be able to set up your move with Smartmove. The personal property office is the one who will be getting a carrier to move you, you just need to give them the pertinent information. They will come to your home, pack everything and get it to San Diego. All you need to do is supervise to make sure none of your stuff gets broken or lost.

Make sure your husband gives you a Power of Attorney and copy of his orders to sign for setting up your move.

There are movers in your area as there are bases in the area- Naval Air Warfare Center being one. If you still need a bit of assistance call the Command Master Chief at that base at (407) 380-4918 and ask their assistance to get you started with where to go. Ask them if there is a local transportation office on the base. If so, you can take that power of attorney and the copy of the orders and set up your move there.

In our 21 years together during active duty, my husband set up the first move and I set up all others. This is a great learning experience for you and believe me it won't be the first time you'll have to do something like this on your own.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response, We got married in beginning of October (which was the middle of his a-school) so thats why we didnt get BAH while he was there. I tried smart move and it keeps saying this... "Sorry, you are currently not eligible to use SMARTWebMove.

SMARTWebMove does not service your geographical area at this time.

Next time you're ready to move, please logon again - our services are being updated regularly. Thank you for trying SMARTWebMove.

Please contact your Local Personal Property Office to arrange your move. "

But I have no idea who the local personal property office in Orlando is considering there is no base here.. I hope this gets easier cause so far its aggravating lol!!

Hello Navy Wife! You may want to contact family support at Great Lakes. They may be able to give you some help. Their
site is www.fcnavygreatlakes.com/newresidents-moving.asp. Your daughters are about the age my friend's daughters were when they peeled off all the stickers the movers had put on the boxes to identify them. She frantically ran around throwing on stickers even though she had no clue to which sticker went on what box. ( Funny what kids will do when they have one parent gone. ) The girls claimed they were going to put the stickers on a letter to Daddy.:)

And he should have been receiving BAH all along. He needs to speak top PSD about that. BAH does not depend on training status, but on having dependents!
