Hi there,

My son leaves for basic on 1/10/18. Where can I purchase a pre-paid calling card? The only cards that I can find are tied to a cellular provider.

Thanks

Mary

Hi dancingmom66 you can find them at best buy wal-mart, CVS. also when my son left we got him a small address and phone book and we had a going away party everyone included their address and phone number. here is a good site to look at.

Phone Cards and Phone Calls

Also I would like to welcome you and Congrats to your Son, wishing him the best in his New Journey. also please take a look at these sites it will give much information.

Can recruits take anything to BC with them?

Recruits should go with what they have on their backs, their cell phones, and not much else. (See Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....)

What will the first day be like at BC?

See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and Ship/Division--How it Works.

Hi--

My son purchased an ATT Worldwide prepaid phone card at the NEX. According to him all phone cards must be ATT (don't ask me why.)

We purchased and mailed  our son an extra 500 minute ATT phone card (with a tracking number) because he's in RCU and cannot get to the NEX for another card. If he doesn't use all those minutes before he moves across the street and can have his phone back, he can give the card to another recruit who needs it.

Hope that helps.
